Need custody for housing, need housing for custody

She is offered a chance to live near one of the largest lakes in Minnesota in an income-based unit, and she bravely says yes to an unfamiliar town. Making community connections already. Lake life coming right up!

Electeds arguing for tit-for-tat gerrymandering are missing the point. They should know that ranked choice voting is the answer. @betoorourke.bsky.social @codewithbeto.dev @governor.ca.gov @gavinnewsom.bsky.social @repdelbene.bsky.social

Brave enough to leave an abusing loved one, move across the state to an unknown small town. Confident in her ability to make friends from strangers. Section 8 bolsters us, gives us strength and courage.

Ranked choice voting solves our current dilemmas.
Imagine an even playing field for multiple candidates. Gerrymandering loses its sting.
Negative campaigning is punished by the voters.
More candidates, more voters participating.
Incumbents lose their entitlement, their grip on the seats.

Ranked choice voting is known to cut down on negative campaigning. Perfect example —

We know what we have to do to save our city from Andrew Cuomo.

We're cross endorsing 🤝

Ranked choice voting levels the field — more democratic — it encourages more of our citizens to run for office, brings new voters to the polls, and gives all candidates a chance to win.

Eight months on the waiting list for a very shabby income-based apartment in a struggling neighborhood. But hey, they’ll take it — with gratitude and grace.

Section 8 is like having a supportive family who holds you up while you explore your artistic, athletic, entrepreneurial, career, or educational opportunities. It’s one of the few social supports that allows for personal growth and / or thoughtful parenting while you prepare for your best life.

Young adults who are students are excluded from federal housing programs. Meanwhile I’m waiting to turn 62 so I can to back to school for $20/credit. Upside down world.

Housing choice voucher vs project-based section 8:

HCV = independence, mobility; also higher fees, discrimination against voucher holders.

PB8 = low to no fees; long waiting lists

Section 8 = Housing. Income-based support. Growth and healing. Life affirming. Career building.

How about you?

I made this the other night while procrastinating, mainly because I thought all the posts about the blackout were boring. It feels like there is momentum bringing people together!

High turnover in property management = people not getting housing. Ten open income-based units in one building, no one managing them, and the cold months go by. Let’s do better.
