A challenge with AI adoption is that organizations are not built to a Grand Plan where AI can just be slotted in by leaders, but rather socially constructed, semi-random & in flux

Here's an anecdote from a paper on how a CEO realized he didn't understand how things really worked (& that nobody did)

U.S. government researchers present 'phenomenal' new data on HPV vaccines
A new study seems to confirm that a single dose of the vaccine used to prevent HPV infection is just as effective as two — and, therefore, also helps to prevent cancer.

Nothing will kill more children than the ongoing decimation of CDC, NIH, and USAID work to lift vaccine uptake in the US and world.

Child survival rose 75% in the last 50 years. Vaccines account for 40% of that. Measles vax alone was 60% of the benefit. www.thelancet.com/journals/lan...

AI deployments in health are often understudied because they require time and careful analysis.⌛️🤔

We share thoughts in @ai.nejm.org about a recent AI tool for emergency dept triage that: 1) improves wait times and fairness (!), and 2) helps nurses unevenly based on triage ability

Rubio terminated 5800 USAID contracts – more than 90% of its foreign aid programs – in defiance of the courts.

Here’s a list of just some of the lifesaving awards that were terminated. Nearly all were Congressionally mandated. They’ve saved millions of lives. 🧵

In the present discussions about NIH and the need for reform, two recurring points I am seeing are:

(1) NIH doesn't fund truly high impact research

(2) NIH needs to experiment with alternative approaches to peer review, particularly for high risk-high impact research
