Female workers in US steel mills, WW2 (c.1942) were a subject for photographer Margaret Bourke-White. They were known as 'Rosies' based on the 'Rosie the Riveter' icon, which represented women who worked in factories and shipyards when men were absent in war #WomrnsArt

Turns out Wellingtonians came out in force on Saturday, single biggest day of voting. 48% participation which is the best result since at least 2016.

No, the 'centre-right' did not "sweep" the local elections. They did well in some areas, but they lost ground in other places. The left held their ground on Auckland Council, and they had gains in both Wellington and Christchurch.

More votes were cast in favour of Maori wards than were cast against. That reflects just how much public opinion in NZ has changed.

I'm really pleased to see that Wellington not only rejected Mr Chung's politics, but that it did so by such a large margin.

The new Wellington City Council will include 5 Labour councillors and 4 Green councillors, plus Andrew Little, giving the two party "coalition" an increased governing majority - 10 out of 16 votes, compared to 8 under the previous council.

Very, but unsurprising when one saw the huge amount of advertising his budget was able to purchase. And the results in the Council elections are no better for Mauger than the last ones were. Those results were actually quite encouraging for progressive politics.

Phil Mauger has been re-elected as Christchurch Mayor, his massive spending advantage just being too much to overcome. But the new Council will be no friendlier to his empty politics than the last one was.

You have three hours left to put your completed ballot paper in the orange bin at your local Mall or Supermarket.

Just got sent this from an article by Bryce Edwards. This is completely false, and he never once fact-checked it with me. My campaign was run by me and my small volunteer team. Comments like this reflect a tired mindset that assumes women can’t succeed in politics without a man pulling the strings.

The Anatomy of influence - A Wellington case study
Many of the powerful vested interests behind local politicians are barely acknowledged. For example, how many Wellington voters knew that the current Mayor of Wellington, Tory Whanau, had her successful 2022 campaign essentially run by corporate lobbyist Neale Jones?
Jones co-owns and operates the Capital Government Relations firm with fellow political commentator Ben Thomas. The firm is the epitome of the "revolving door"

One recent poll showed President Boluarte with a disapproval rating of 96%. Boluarte has governed with the blessing of the right wing majority of Peru's Congress, and the military. They appear to be abandoning her.

Local election turnout in Christchurch had been steadily rising. At 5pm the day before election day, turnout was 36.6% in 2016, rising to 37.6% in 2019, and rising further to 39.2% in 2022. This time, it has collapsed to 33.4%. You can vote until noon tomorrow by using the orange bins.

Turnout is lower so far in this year's local elections, especially in wards that vote Left. You can still vote by 12 noon Saturday by putting your completed ballot paper in the orange bins at Supermarkets and other locations.

Trumpists are in for an awful shock when they realise that 'antifa' were never a centralised organisation, and now barely exist.
