You know what they’re going to store in those warehouses?

People
In the last month ICE has bought warehouses in:

- Hagerstown, MD: $102 million
- Surprise, AZ: $70 million
- Hamburg, PA: $87 million
- Tremont, PA: $120 million
- San Antonio, TX: $82 million
- El Paso, TX: $123 million
- Social Circle, GA: price unknown

This is unprecedented.

production of The Muppet Show should not be dependent on petty vulgarities like “ratings” or “revenue.” it should be preserved as a vital function of american culture. it should have a taxpayer-funded budget rivaling the CIA

Yawgoo Valley is the lone remaining ski resort in Rhode Island.

Climate change is making each ski season more difficult and uncertain.
Rhode Island’s last ski area faces an existential threat: No snow
The Yawgoo Valley Ski Area Yawgoo opened its doors in 1965. At the time, there were four other ski areas in the state.

The credential for the video should certainly be signed by the entity best positioned to attest to its authenticity, but with secure key/cert mgmt that can be done locally without central storage. E.g. every photo captured by Pixel 10 has credentials without Google storing images to make it work.

I interviewed an expert on what's happening with connectivity in Iran:

The longest blackout in Iran's history. Thousands dead. Documentation of war crimes dependent on Starlink. A regime that uses AI's ubiquity to undermine the credibility of evidence. www.theverge.com/policy/87184...
Shedding light on Iran’s longest internet blackout

i think this attitude — that all opposition is illegitimate and nothing we do can be questioned— is probably pervasive in the white house and helps explain why they keep making terrible political choices
Putin pioneered this. No opposition is legitimate. Regular, decent, “ordinary” people cannot possibly be against us because only we represent “the real people.”

Tell-tale sign of authoritarianism.

I have spent my entire adult life being lectured by Republican politicians and conservative legal movement types about how important it is to preserve the sacred constitutional right to self-defense of *specifically this person* and then secret police murdered him in the street
Minneapolis police chief Brian O'Hara says that the victim was a 37-year-old white man and US citizen with no criminal record and that he was a legally permitted gun owner.

if a car hit you, it was your fault because you weren’t in a crosswalk

if you were in a crosswalk, it was your fault because you didn’t push the blinky light button

If you pushed the button, it was your fault because streets are made for cars so why weren’t you in one

California parks are free on MLK day.

Feels like a good day to step outside, take a walk, and think a bit about Dr. King and the idea that public spaces should belong to everyone.

Over 200 of California's state parks are open for free on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Looking for one to visit? Start with these five.

I’m seeing posts from people (outside of MN) about how US citizens should carry their passports.

And let me say that *inside* MN, we are calmly responding to requests with: “No, I don’t have to show you any documentation.”

Because that’s how you protect everyone, regardless of immigration status.

Thousands singing “Hey-Oh, we won’t be silent while our friends are gunned down.”

Really listen to it.
