IMO, The congressional effort to defund the Corporation for Public Broadcasting hinges on Alaska’s two senators, along with Susan Collins of Maine. Good reporting from Nathaniel Herz of Northern Journal.

38 is the new 40. Awesome to see my mom (briefly) in Boston with dinner and great in-laws (and also that weird lady on the far right). A great birthday topped off by Gilly slicing her paw and a vet visit. She’s a trooper.

One of my favorite things about New England bars are the celebrity photos from 20-30 years ago.

“It would just be in areas where you can’t get affordable housing, like for gateway communities. So you could actually have people to work in the national parks, maybe around some big metropolitan areas in the West.”

One fun thing about this story is that it includes quotes from my interview with @petebuttigieg.bsky.social, who brought up, unprompted, the notorious "Wolves Only Roadway" episode of the West Wing — and pointed out that a pre-Swanson Nick Offerman plays one of the humorless wildlife advocates!

Reddit exists so I can finally understand why "BLANK skis in jeans" is considered an insult. I've always loved seeing old guys at Maverick Mountain skiing in jeans.

Can someone explain the “skis in jeans” joke?

Just received an illegal stop work order on 2 BLM grants to restore riparian areas within grasslands for the benefit of wildlife and producers. These people can fuck all the way off regardless but if this project is getting caught in their ChatGPT keyword searches... just about everything must be.

Some photos from Donegal on the last day of my reporting trip to Ireland

I love this moment. The day before a big reporting trip begins. Packing all my gear, planning all the travel (planes, buses and automobiles), getting ready for some jet lag…

This is still unsettled and hotly debated science but, as I found out, in our polarized and increasingly digital world… unsettled science can quickly become doctrine. Check out the latest episode of @outsideinradio.bsky.social here: outsideinradio.org/shows/fluori... 3/3
Fluoridation nation — Outside/In
From "Colorado Brown Stain" to Dr. Strangelove, we look at the weird history (and surprising science) behind fluoridated water.

At really high doses, fluoride is toxic – it can calcify your ligaments and joints and even fuse your spine. It also potentially has impacts on our brains. There’s a small but growing body of research suggesting that fluoride can inhibit intelligence in children. 2/3

Ever since fluoridation became widespread in the 1950s, cavities in kids have fallen drastically. The effort is considered one of the ten greatest public health achievements of the 20th century. But it’s also one of the most controversial. 1/3

Casually tucking in “sell federal land” and “removing flood insurance subsidies” while unleashing American energy. Worth a read to understand some of the priorities of the 2025 GOP.
