With the UN announcing 2026 as the International Year of the Women Farmer, we hope that future CSO Farm Structure Surveys will see increases from 2023, which saw women account for 13.2% of the 133,174 farm holders in Ireland and 34% of the 299,725 total farm workers.

We heard the challenges women face with access to land, finance, and power distribution in farming. It was empowering to hear how stories of courage and innovation (plus stubbornness!) enabled the panel to overcome obstacles and ease the path for others through networks like Dairy Women Ireland.
At last week's National Ploughing Championships, NCI attended ✨Breaking Ground - Female Leaders in Agriculture✨
