At today's Heritage Ireland 2030 Summit, we enjoyed meeting archaeological & built heritage experts, plus Niall Ó Donnchú, Niamh Farren & Dr Andy Bleasdale of @npwsireland.bsky.social. The @csoireland.bsky.social Ecosystem Accounts Stakeholder Forum met on 16th Oct in the autumnal National Botanic Gardens 🍂 We discussed Ireland's ecosystem accounts, where natural capital plays a crucial role. With the UN announcing 2026 as the International Year of the Women Farmer, we hope that future CSO Farm Structure Surveys will see increases from 2023, which saw women account for 13.2% of the 133,174 farm holders in Ireland and 34% of the 299,725 total farm workers.

We heard the challenges women face with access to land, finance, and power distribution in farming. It was empowering to hear how stories of courage and innovation (plus stubbornness!) enabled the panel to overcome obstacles and ease the path for others through networks like Dairy Women Ireland.

SWAN member Bird Watch Ireland have published the 73 most important areas for seabirds in Ireland. 24 marine sites and 8 of the terrestrial sites are newly identified. They are calling for these IBAs to be designated as Special Protection Areas.
