One mechanic I wish the anime had used is the fact that, canonically, the Pokédex allows trainers to switch any Pokémon they want from anywhere. Yet, it’s only ever mentioned once, in Episode 13 of the original series, and the function is never used again.

This is why I will never understand "Ash is a loser, especially in Os" take because that's just dumb. Literally needed to be sabotaged, and a unfair judge to actually beat him. He didn't even lose fair and square

Even with Ritchie, he could have beaten him. Pidgeotto easily counters Happy if he wasn't tired. Squirtle beats Zippo because all Zippo even does is spit Fire and no other moves, and Sparky can be countered by Bulbasaur or they could have a Pikachu vs Sparky mirror match

Lol I remember back when XY first aired here, everyone was into it. Even classmates who didn't care about Pokémon before were suddenly invested into the show. For all of its flaws I think Yajima did an incredible job in terms of Bringing back audience to Pokémon. XY was the time to be a Pokémon fan

Tbf, even in OS, compared to most of the other trainers present in the series, Ash was actually really good. Back then, your characters like Mandy were treated as someone who can win the league by Npcs and Ash was able to beat him. I don't think he was actually an underdog—
