Given the recent developments south of our border, I examined data from the newly released 2024 American National Study to find some reassurance. In 2024, most Americans opposed political violence. I hope this hasn't shifted in light of recent events. 🧵

OK, so curious what @patricksturg.bsky.social thinks of this. In the raw F2F @britishelectionstudy.com from 2024, the raw (unweighted) vote share is 44% Labour, 20% Conservatives. This seems a big over-statement of the actual lead?

I show misalignment btwn Black Americans’ expressed partisan & ideological identities (red line below) stems from unfamiliarity w/ terms “liberal” & “conservative,” making the standard, oft-used lib-con measure invalid for this population.

How did different racial/ethnic groups move over the course of the campaign?

Here is data from our two-wave NORC panel showing that Harris increased support over Biden among Black, Hispanic & white citizens between late winter & fall 2024.
