For sure! When the worst argument I have for the game is some parts of it are ugly, that should be counterbalanced by the fact that some are gorgeous. I just know they're capable of so much more given proper time and incentive.

Right now I'm worried too many fans aren't giving them that incentive.

Am I still having a blast playing it? Yeah. The gameplay is fun. Graphics have always been second to fun, but as one of the largest gaming franchises in the world, I think it's unfair to coddle Gamefreak and The Pokemon Company.

They can and have done better and we should expect better from them.

For every wonderfully designed, small, intimate set piece, there's at least a dozen strange and misaligned lifeless texture. I know that for a game this scale it doesn't make sense to detail EVERY building, but like. A little bit of care when you're copy-pasting goes a long way.

Then you have this building. No detail on the doors or windows. A minor lightmap to accent what should be depth. Planters that are basically blank boxes. Flat balcony textures. No reflection mapping.

On the one hand, there's clear evidence of small-scale attention to details. Look at this wonderful little cafe. It's got recessed windows with clear windowsills, reflection mapping for the windows, Pokemon posters, awnings with writing on it. Even the planters outside have texture and depth.

About 50ish hours in, and I can say that I both love and hate this game. There are parts of it oozing with love for the franchise, care in its details, and character that hasn't been present in a long time.

There's also clearly corners cut in some obvious areas. It leaves me conflicted.

To anyone surprised by this- when Krafton acquired Tango last year, they entered a “strategic partnership” with Microsoft, who is busy shoehorning as much AI into all their products as possible too.
