P1 Placement final week 🥹

An absolute privilege to have worked with such incredible staff. The children were an absolute delight to play with, teach and learn from. I am extremely sad that placement is over.
Too much to summarise in one post but it was insightful, encouraging and fun!

"When the expected standard is 54 marks out of 110 (as it was in 2024 KS2 Sats), it’s clear that we do not really have a mastery system."

It's always baffled me how there has been a sustained national push towards a mastery approach, yet the assessment framework has remained woefully misaligned.
How to fix the primary maths curriculum
‘Phonics’ for maths and more pleasure in the subject should be the aim of the primary maths curriculum, and this is how we achieve it, argue Peter Foulds and David Thomas

P1 Placement week 4
Another excellent week in P1. Getting to see parents night, outdoor learning and nominate / award the Legendary Learner for p1 just made a joyous week of learning and growing. Plus lovely feedback from Observation! Couldn’t be happier!

P1 Placement week 3
Half way through.
What a brilliant, enlightening and humbling week.
I’m learning so much every minute of every day with every interaction. I’m so impressed with the professionalism of all the staff and how they handle every type of incident.

P1 Placement Week 2
I am extremely enjoying being in an environment where I can really experience being a teacher. Helping the P1’s learn, play and grow is one of the best things I’ve ever seen. And it’s only been 2 weeks!

Placement Week 1
I am loving my primary one class and the experience of actually doing what I’ve changed everything in my life to do.
Fulfilment, joy, nurture, creativity and impact. So the real work begins.
#UoEPGDEp
I am extremely lucky. Best of both worlds - get to have the experience of a break, spending time with family and friends but not feeling behind on uni work. 🥰 thank you Louise.
I know… they are wonderful. They know how important this is to me though!
I will definitely enjoy some fun too don’t worry 💕
They truly are 💕 ‘it takes a village to get Jennifer through her PGDE’ … that’s the well known phrase isn’t it?
October week holiday (what’s that? 😂).
Loving this peaceful retreat with supportive friends who are currently entertaining my child so I can get some work for on my Professional Development Consultation for Placement 1 and progress through Assignment 2 reading.

PGDE Day 31
🏘️Society centred slant today looking at Curriculum for excellence.
🔬Followed by science and meeting the children where they are, finding out their alternative views and encouraging them towards a different understanding.
Follow the curiosity & keep wondering.

At the weekend I dance ☘️
Irish Consulate family Day celebrating the connection between Scotland and Ireland. Always an honour to be involved in this wholesome event. Music, song, dance, language, sport, food and drinks.
Plus just the wee matter of launching the St Patrick’s Ball 22.03.25 🎉
PGDE days 27-29

From Bayesian Theory to Rita Pierson, to trauma aware/sensitive/informed conversations and phonemic speech-sound language development. It’s been a W E E K!
Maybe… just maybe this week has been a little easier to get through. There is hope!
PGDE Day 26
Two great sessions today!
💭more work on critical thinking and analysis… how learner centred is CfE?
💻Some great tools and resources to explore for digital literacy.
☘️launched our show tickets and had an excellent session with the team!

Got loads from today.

PGDE Day 25
First assignment handed in.
That is all.
Happy Weekend folks.
So so relevant as I sit here writing my critical analysis on Poverty as a social justice topic that needs addressed.
Apparently by 2030 we will have ‘eradicated poverty’ …. So that’s good.
(SDGs).
“If we think that we can get kids mired in poverty to achieve, at scale, academically similar to the wealthiest kids - that’s magical thinking. We have to be prepared to take on poverty. And that starts by saying it.”

Ralph Smith giving some hard home truths.
We need Dr Geetha Marcus on BlueSky !!!
Yesterday was impactful to say the least. I couldn’t get enough of her.
Love that she mentioned these posters in Glasgow. It’s so Glasgow. 💕
Bluesky now has over 10 million users, and I was #6,199,214!
A virtual certificate with text "Celebrating 10M users on Bluesky, #6,199,214, Jennifer ‪@msjennirox.bsky.social‬, joined on Aug 19, 2024"
PGDE Day 23
The responsibility of a teacher to make a difference is very heavy. The @morayhouse.bsky.social mini conference showed us the emotional impact of racism on the children who experience it. We examined our own privilege, building racial literacy and experienced poetry by Tawona Sitholé.
PGDE Day 21 & 22
A welcome break from
academia found in dance has helped me keep my sanity (just) as we prepare to hand in our first assignment.
Missing the very helpful maths workshop (emergency vet appt) just adds to maths anxiety. Aaand it’s only Tuesday.
Bluey=relevant 🙌 small win!

Giving me shivers recalling feelings of embarrassment and of being singled out… however I completely understand and agree with the approach. Hearing the same voices is unhelpful and not reflective of the whole group, encouraging engagement is more interesting.
Just be compassionate + prep us 🙏

Helpful reminder that our window of tolerance for stress and our ability to cope with demands fluctuates every day and throughout the day. Something that is easy and straightforward on one day can feel exhausting and overwhelming on another. The same applies to the kids you teach. #EduSky #EdPsychs
Hey folks - this is your reminder of this important graph from @AdamMGrant. You may be tempted to go above and give it your all, especially if you're an educator at the beginning of the school year, but it's fine to pace yourself and listen to what you need. #teacherwellbeingselfcare
