They Live by Night (1948) was the first film to have a tracking shot from a helicopter. Insane that Ray requested to do a chase sequence to open the film and then state it needs to be a tracking shot from a helicopter. Glad the producer had faith in Ray's vision cause its so cool.

Wicked spoilers: It is terrifying to contemplate that Glinda’s song “Popular” actually provides the whole thesis of the political landscape of Wicked. You don’t need brains/knowledge, all you need is popularity and you can become a dictator of Oz cause the citizens are stupid and easily manipulated.

So great to see college radio in all its glory featured in today's NYT. I interviewed for the piece (WFUV is at Fordham, WFMU is independent, formerly of Uppsala--such is the way with radio, which has more acronyms than the New Deal): www.nytimes.com/2025/11/20/s...

My sister has still never finished this film cause of this scene. It’s been 3 decades since she first attempted to watch it.

The Pope vs. the Algorithm
In his speech to filmmakers last weekend, Pope Leo XIV showed he’s been paying serious attention to the issues facing cinema as an art form.

So I really did not care for Wicked: For Good, and I ended up writing one of my longest pieces of film criticism in years (1,200+ words) expressing my criticisms. mollywoodwrites.wordpress.com/2025/11/19/w...
Wicked: For Good Flies off the Handle and Lands with a Thud in a Disappointing Followup
Written by Margaret “Molly” Rasberry on November 19th, 2025 (Minor spoilers for a Broadway show that is almost a quarter of a century old and a film that is over 85 years old).   In 2004,…

I got way more Wages of Fear vibes from Sirat (2025) than Mad Mad Fury Road and I think it’s because so many people have never seen The Wages of Fear(it’s at 82k watched on Letterboxd compared to 2.2 million for Fury Road) people see trucks and explosives in the desert= Fury Road.

Watched Nouvelle Vague (2025) last night after watching Blue Moon (2025) and if you told me the better biopic of an artist that Linklater made in one year was not the film director one I would’ve scoffed. You can tell Linklater probably does not care for Godard’s Marxist ideology he cultivated.

If I Had Legs I Would Kick You (2025) has given me the most uncomfortable and claustrophobic experiences I've had this year. A bold film that encourages the viewer to sympathize with the person society often ostracizes, the self-loathing mother. I was transfixed. 4/5 🌟 An extraordinary film.
