“For the trouble with the real folk of Faerie is that they do not always look like what they are; and they put on the pride and beauty that we would fain wear ourselves.”
― J.R.R. Tolkien, Tolkien on Fairy-stories
My submission for Green Women A Companion has been sent in.
My topic is fairies & the colour green. It was a fascinating thing to research.
"The first Scottish appearance of the term 'fairfolks' occurs in Douglas's translation of the Aenid in 1513. The woods were for long occupied by 'nymphis & fawnys apun euery syde, Quhilk fairfolkis, or than elvys, clepyng we (which we called fair folk & elves)'"

Im working on some restructuring
I have a framed print of this in my office. One of my favourite modern fairy images
"..there may be ghosts or there may not; but if there are none there are fairies, and they are worse."
- Quote from man reminiscing about a fairy encounter, early 19th century, from The Prince Edward Islands magazine 1902

Saw someone say, “Stop hoarding books, we don’t need paper books anyway” and I can’t express how misguided this is. Online libraries disappear, digital books can be altered, and with Big Tech seeking to destroy history and literacy, print media has never been more essential.
I'm starting to wonder if people who are quick to volunteer for eternal servitude to the good folk have watched too much Downton Abbey and not enough Hell Raiser

That silly little picture you generated is cranking up energy costs, hurting artists, and adding absolutely nothing to the world.

Our medieval curator Alison Ray introduces Rawlinson Bodleian Library MS. Rawl. D. 252...a 15th Century necromancer's journal.

This manuscript contains spells written in Latin and Middle English, and would have served as a reference for a professional sorcerer.

The new tariffs are going to hit artists particularly hard if it means losing customers in the US, so I'd ask Irish people to please consider buying local, from Irish makers, where at all possible. Support that means little to a huge business makes a massive difference to small creators. We need ye.
ℹ️ Information from An Post relevant to Irish artists selling to the US - still no clarity elsewhere about what the charges will be, time will tell.
