Phew! Marty Supreme is a long well-made film that veers all over the place in terms of style and substance. And yet by the end I didn’t feel quite satisfied… boxd.it/daYQph #amwatching #film
A ★★★★ review of Marty Supreme (2025)
There’s a moment when Chalamet’s character - a narcissistic conman/top level ping pong player -says he’s avoiding caffeine. There’s no sign of cocaine use either. So what is fuelling this high energy ...

I’ve been to the London BFI cinema twice to see this film and I fell asleep both times. (Says more about me than the film, I suspect…)

Excellent work here, demonstrating the real reasons why so many pubs have died in recent years.
My brother wanted a London pub crawl. The result? My new Substack post: "Britain Lost 14,000 Third Places. They were Called Pubs. Is Your Local Next?" How private equity reshaped the local, which pubs are most at risk and most importantly what to do about it.

Thanks to @lloydshepherd.com for gifting me this book and to @matthewsweet.bsky.social for writing it. Includes many fun interviews with seemingly long-lost stars of early British cinema. And a few delicious drive-bys of eminent luvvies like Johnnie Mills and Dirk Bogarde. #amreading #books

Still feeding off the small but perfectly formed Seurat exhibition at the Courtauld.

Interesting that from 29 games or so your fortune is made or lost as a manager. i.e once January business is done and injuries to the end of the season identified, you either kick on or you don’t.
#NCFC points won in the Champ over the last 3 seasons (game # at bottom).
After 32 games, 25/26 is now 4 points behind 24/25 & 9 behind 23/24.
Can the 'Clement Climb' continue? 🤞

Gibbs has got a job on out there tonight… 😬 #ncfc
Well it’s a line-up.

A weird one but we seem to have 11 fit players. Just.

Many of these #WinterOlympics skaters appear to have several different passports, so they can pick and choose which country they represent. I’m confused about who I should be rooting for. The Canadian who skates for Britain? The Israeli who skates for Lithuania? The Ukrainian who skates for the U.S?

My GP (not any more) told me to go away and buy a wellness app…
When my late wife, Colette, first went to see a doctor about her mental health, telling him that she felt sad all the time, the doctor did this. I kid you not.

Lucinda Williams and her excellent 3-piece band took it back to basics last night in a great way. Amazing grit and energy for her to be still touring, still creating.

Private Eye naturally making the most out of Mandelson’s shame.

Hard agree. For that money a new carbon-neutral fit-for-purpose Parliament could be built in another part of the country (the Midlands?). And the old building could be left as a crumbling visual metaphor for the death of empire and Britain’s general decline.

Narcissist always be narcissisting…
the mad thing is that when Mandelson went on the BBC earlier this month for a grand Sunday geopolitical interview, he knew that the FT knew about the Epstein payments to his husband, and that they were about to come out
