That is a man with zero faith in modern cinema, and I'm 100% behind him on it.

They'd cgi everyone because "practical effects are too pricey" and it wouldn't have any charm or soul to it.

The No Kings March in Chicago is one of the largest gatherings I’ve seen here. Looking down from by the river, the crowd stretches for blocks down Michigan Ave and wraps around Wacker Dr. This video is from a few minutes ago and the end of the protest is nowhere in sight.

Mike Truk throw ball hard!
but don't hit stick-man in head with ball, or Mike Truk get yell at by coach.
I don't think the problem is with social media as a concept as much as the fact that the people who own the social media sites are mostly amoral greedy sociopaths.

Humans enjoy connecting with like-minded humans, and it's pretty fucked that some see that fact and think "I can make money off that".

If I had explain American history in one sentence, I could do worse than "John Brown was hung for treason, but Robert E. Lee was not."
John Brown’s raid on Harpers Ferry began on this day in 1859.

Wikipedia is worth $10/month because if it dies so does reliable knowledge. Cough up if you can -- it's cheaper, more interesting and morally superior to Netflix.
wikipedia's data shows that AI is siphoning traffic away from the site, which is a danger to its sustainability. ironically Wikipedia is more important than ever to users who want reliable information instead of slop, and to AI companies that need it for training data www.404media.co/wikipedia-sa...

All Cops Are Bastards, and so is everyone who hides behind them, stands with them, or facilitates them in any way.

Dissent is as American as apple pie. Freedom to assemble is a constitutional right.

@govpritzker.illinois.gov- either walk the talk or fuck off directly into Lake Michigan, bro.
At the Chicago area ICE detention center in Broadview this morning.

These aren't detention vans—they're vehicles full of Illinois State Police. Local cops are staging for a morning of protest.

Supposedly, demonstrators will be banned from 25th St today. Fence on Beach came down a few days ago.
That rules! I've never gotten to see them live, always heard it was an experience.
At least 4 of those were in deep consideration for my own list, ngl.

It's about time Strange Days finally begins getting the retrospective love and respect it deserves. To me, it's the best pre-Matrix cyberpunk film other than Blade Runner and Robocop, and still better than most cyberpunk films made since.

30 years ago, Katherine Bigelow made a sci-fi flop that changed her career for the better
Strange Days is a noir-soaked science-fiction thriller set against a backdrop of racial tension, police brutality, sexual assault, and disruptive tech

She gets all the flowers. I mean ALL of them. If we see her, we immediately have to give her flowers.
It was about halfway through the actual session, but the very introduction to what was going to be a spider-infested cave, one crept down from the ceiling and attacked, and suddenly One Player was Having A Very Bad Time.

"he's the man with no name... because he physically cannot tell you what his name is..."
A skinned knee or rolled ankle hurts twice as bad if someone puts yakety sax over the video.
I've had it come up exactly once.

Didn't realize a player's dislike of spiders was less of an ick and more of a "Full-On Extreme No Jokes Arachnophobia".

Needless to say, the "giant phase spider caverns" was suddenly filled with violent ethereal crabs instead.
Okay wait, so- in a 'state of emergency', the state typically organizes the state's National Guard contingent... who are the root cause of the state of emergency in the first place.

Are we moving towards a Guard v Guard situation?

I would love to be living in precedented times again...

Who the FUCK wants to read AI-written erotica?
The creators of ChatGPT have pedalled back on attempts to make the chatbot less human, opting instead to make it respond in a "very human-like way", including by introducing erotica for adult users from December.

On that note, release the Epstein files.

Tax the living shit out of billionaires like we did before Reagan, and the "fiscal problem" will dissolve.
