As the owner of a proper doujin circle myself (albeit a low-activity one), I'd like to give some context and insight.
TL;DR "doujin" isn't just "indie but Japanese". It has a rather specific and structured form.

After LttP it feels like we stopped seeing illustrations like these, where the mystery and danger of the world was the focus. The artwork became much more character-driven. Seems to line up with the series' shift in design and perhaps general trends. (Unsurprisingly, I like the original games best!)
Such great cave exploration pieces in this one. The mood in them is awesome. I love how detailed the art is in the 2nd one.

You know how final fantasy "fans" act like the series used to be a tame tolkienesque fantasy because no one plays more than an hour of the game. There's resident evil fans who think it was ever a slow moody psychological horror and not a game with cops guns and boss fights from day 1
