Hope you're enjoying your weekend!

The next #blog entry isn't a strict article, but the return of the journal-style Letely series where I talk about what I've been enjoying in recent days.

Weeks. Months. It's been a little while since the last one.

ChainDive is an excellent 2000s house/trance music visualizer that also happens to have an entire video game included with it.

My personal favorite track is this absolute banger from the tutorial.

"Yeah, I can do a couple hours of thrifting in Akihabara," I say to myself, sleep-deprived, as I ignore the radiating soreness from my legs and smash a beer at 2 PM

Important #arcade news update from straight out of Tokyo:
As of 6 days ago, the legendary Club Sega Akihabara reopened its doors after its latest change in ownership.

Now managed by Matahari Entertainment, the game center goes by a new name: SILK HAT TOKYO.

Tonight I visited it in person.

"What is Anime?" asks and explains one of the anime fan sites of the late 90s, earnestly enthusing and educating.

Filing this under ♯off-topic

I'm full-throttle in Busy Season: my non-work time is divided between standing in awe at how time seems to pass by so quickly & enjoying moments of much-needed rest.

I'll be quieter as things pick up further.

Meanwhile, do take good care of yourself over the holidays!

As a Person Who Doesn't Really Play Much Metroid, I ascribe to the "number of suits" school of thought because I think it's funny.

If normal One-Suit Samus (aka Flush Samus for the Balatro players) puts on power armor, I hope we can accept the name Two-Suit Samus.

Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.
I wonder if Zero Suit Samus is called that because she first appeared in Zero Mission or because it's Samus with No (Zero) Suit of armor on

I wonder if that technically makes regular Samus "One Suit Samus"

I'm curious as to how extensively the Digital Comics reader on the PSP was actually used.

In theory it's really neat: you could purchase and read official Marvel and IDW comics, back in an era when doing so on a portable device was relatively novel (e.g. the first iPhone was only 2 years prior)

They also reference the shop in Phantasy Star 4. It's said it being in the basement in PS4 is because the conditions are ideal for baking. Chaz questions why the storefront also needs to be in the basement, and will quip about it being too dark to see well, but that he assumes the kitchen is clean.

In the original Phantasy Star, there is, bizarrely, a cake shop located in the middle of the Naula Cave dungeon.

This cake shop is referenced in Phantasy Star Online 2, but is so ridiculously rare that it can take hundreds of hours for its event to ever occur.

As in PS1, the shop sells Shortcake.

There are 1500 rules in the scripts governing NPC behaviour in a mostly forgotten open-world Amiga/ST/DOS game called The Adventures of Robin Hood. All affected in real-time by 32 characteristics, what you're doing in the game, your reputation, and the changing of the seasons.
i was going through my X archives and found this by @superpodsaga.com, which I qrt'd at some point years ago

so, let me bring the question back: what is the most useless piece of video game knowledge you know?

This demo disc came with the console and included Sega Rally, World Series Baseball, Clockwork Knight 2, and later on Bug!

When I moved to Japan, I had to leave a lot of my things behind: including my trusty RAP 4 Kai.

It was my first full size arcade stick, and my companion through countless hours across fighters and shmups alike.

I've missed it a lot!
So, say hello to my new RAP V Hayabusa (the V stands for Vewlix!)

Credit where it's due, WRC 4's modeling for different track types (gravel, dirt, tarmac) makes a noticeable difference. Especially when driving the more aggressive WRC class vehicles.
The simcade feel of the physics is actually part of why I'm sticking with the game. Course diversity is a big plus.
