The Alberta government stopped tracking class sizes, and then the province's population growth really took off. @robsonfletcher.com set out to find out how the numbers of teachers compare to that growth, with the limited info available

Class size/composition is a strike issue.

ANALYSIS | Alberta stopped tracking class sizes. Then it changed its funding formula. Now, it's a teachers' strike issue | CBC News
Get a rough idea of how much Alberta’s teaching staff has grown compared to how much student enrolment has grown since the funding formula for school boards was changed.

The last time Alberta proposed to subsidize O&G’s closure liabilities, ScotiaBank warned that it flew in the face of “the core capitalist principle that private cos shld take full responsibility for the liabilities they willingly accept”.

Indeed. Yet it’s the same in O&G jurisdictions everywhere.🤔

"Olszynski said he believes this could be rewarding neglect. He said many tools to hold the industry accountable and to fund closures still exist, and the government needs to ensure those mechanisms are properly funded and enforced."

The people who created the problem are not going to clean it up.

Meintzer said he’s especially concerned that the mature asset strategy’s report, in his view, may violate the polluter pays principle... “It's just going to be used as a way to offload company cleanup obligations onto the public,” he said. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/... #ABLeg #ABPoli #CleanUpYourMess

It would be fun, as an experiment, to organize a massive collective “unplugging” from social media. Even just one day would shake them, I bet.

I really enjoyed this Coyne column. Said tech oligarchs need to way more attentive to the way public opinion is shifting against them. Coyne is just about the furthest thing from a "soak the rich" socialist, and yet....

That interprovincial pipelines are also subject to prov. jurisdiction has never really been in dispute. Both usually operate in tandem — it’s when they conflict that constitutional law gives the feds the upper hand through the doctrine of paramouncry.

But s 5(1.1) flips that. Courtesy of the BQ.

Premier Smith should take a moment to read the Building Canada Act. It’s right there in section 5(1.1): Feds “must…obtain [a province or territory’s] written consent if the project falls w/in areas of exclusive provincial or territorial jurisdiction.”

Fed pipelines touch on several such areas.

Hi Aaron. I think it’s impossible to overstate how beholden Danielle Smith is to O&G interests. That’s the loadstar for everything she does.

There definitely seems to be limited awareness of the industry’s $320 billion in unfunded environmental liabilities that they’re tracking to shaft taxpayers with.

This is b/c of section 5(1.1) of the Building Canada Act, introduced by the BQ at 3rd reading. I haven’t had time, but an intrepid reporter might want to go through the House Transportation Committee’s report & Hansard for the votes. #cdnpoli #ableg

That is, of course, unless you're talking about private schools...

Then it becomes one of the most important things that the Alberta Government recommends parents pay attention to while choosing a private school.

The historically volatile Texas grid was entirely stable this summer, despite extreme temperatures. Grid operators never once had to ask Texans to conserve energy or shut off their air conditioners.

Why? Solar & batteries. Want a stable grid? Try solar & batteries.
Solar and batteries had a record-setting, grid-stabilizing summer in…
Solar has set 17 power generation records in Texas so far this year, shoring up the grid alongside batteries as some gas plant developers step back.
