After 256 pages of misery and sheep farming in Halldor Laxness’s Independent People, I almost threw the book against a wall when I arrived at the start of this section. 😭

Two pigeons walked over the crosswalk in the bike path in front of me this morning. Thanks to Mo Willems, I could hear their entire conversation in my head.

“I would be an excellent bus driver.”
“They have no idea.”
“Maybe we should ask for a puppy instead.”

It’s one of those days.

Clearly the character who has the next line in the play I am writing has a lot on her mind. That’s why she can’t think of what she’s going to say next.
