We just watched the new tron (ares) in the theater recently, and this could actually fit in it really well I think. Has that nin-ish vibe, whole also being unique! Plus the groove 🤌
5 in a day is definitely awesome, and they all sound great on top of it! Such a fun idea, and I'm glad you're committing to it. Will be staying tuned. :)
From my experience working at guitar center in the past, altos were "fine" cheaper options, then EV were better (which I have an older 1000 watt that has served me very well), then qsc if there's money to invest. Good luck!
Got it. Definitely don't try a studio monitor live (don't ask me how I know...), but "powered live speaker" is a good category to look in and you can find the cheaper ones around a couple hundred bucks. Just bear in mind you get what you pay for, so if you can't test it in person check reviews!
I was tempted to do one about revisions, but felt "I don't like it" summed everything up (specifically that those are *the only* 4 words they send)
Reposting cuz I love this idea. No prompt from me cuz I wanna save them for prospective commissioners.

What kind of monitoring would you prefer? Could just get some cheap earbuds and go wired.
Also reading through this prompted me to memorize my mom's new number. My partner and I memorized each other's early on and it's come in handy a time or 2 (when our phones run out of battery and we need to get picked up etc)
I was about to say, I always remembered phone numbers by the shapes they make when you type them. I'm glad smart phones still have the same orientation for the numbers so I can still do that. 👍
Gah I wish! Only 3+ hours away, but I'm already booked this weekend! 😭
I always check the export in a new project that is just to loop it to make sure it works, also check for pops at the transition (and generate crossfades if so), and make a "loop test" version that fades on the 3rd repetition (which often also becomes the album version, unless I'm mastering)
That or just stems, you pick the collection of instruments per speaker, and as you say, the more subtle pads could get their own.
You know what though, you'd probably achieve closer to that at least if you just did like a 10-way setup, so basically just passing a certain frequency range to each speaker, with each speaker optimized for that band, then maybe spread them out (as opposed to having them in one cab).
This is how it is with live bands, especially those where the guitarists still use live amps. It would be cool if an electronic artist emulated that with dedicated speakers per layer, but a project like autechre that would probably mean like 50 speakers. 😂
I don't doubt there is a way to take say a sax reed and make a kazoo-like instrument around it. But actually now that I think of it, flute shouldn't be called woodwind either... I guess there's just a lot of generalizations in these categories.
Wouldn't a kazoo be a "wax paper wind" or something? 😂

In honor of spooky month, share a 4 word horror story that only someone in your profession would understand

I'll go first: Six page commercial lease.

More daisy-chainable peripherals in general! If Christmas lights can do it, why not music gear?
