Furthermore, Secretary McMahon claiming SPED is better served under DHHS is a move backwards, medicalizing disability in socially stigmatizing and deficit-minded ways. /2

This is a clear violation of federal law as this is going to make it far more difficult to provide students with disabilities access to mandated and protected funding. /1

The First Amendment explicitly guarantees:

-the right of the people peaceably to assemble
-to petition the Government for a redress of grievances
-the free exercise of religion
-freedom of speech

If this priest had also been press, ICE would have violated all five 1A freedoms at once.

I’m several years late to the far right lodging “cultural Marxist” as an insult at university professors, but I finally have a come back! After reading Quinn Slobidian’s Hayek’s Bastards I think we just need to dismiss these insults coming from those we can label “eugenicist economic determinists.”

And don’t miss Richard Henry Pratt’s journals! He’s got some material where, as an outside (& obviously very racist) observer, examines various schooling configurations on the Great Plains when he was a soldier.

The periodization may be off a bit, but Keith Burich’s The Thomas Indian School and the “Irredeemable” Children of New York. Could be a helpful frame for thinking about mission schooling in the more urbanized/industrialized North.

We need a bigger national spotlight on this building raid, fam. Agents dropped from helicopters onto the roof. Citizens and non-citizens alike were dragged from their homes in the night. People who weren't kidnapped during the raid had their belongings seized after the fact. This is madness.

This work is super important! These great scholars’ suggestions for rural schools would also help protect Indian Education in BIE schools by association, which account for approximately 10% of all Native students & are under attack by a 2025 E.O. intent on introducing vouchers for BIE students.

On this Remembrance Day, please also remember the tens of thousands of children and families who survived the Mormon Indian Student Placement Program which only ended a quarter century ago. Nearly 1/12 of the entire Navajo Nation was impacted by this boarding-school-like program. #HistEd
