Deercation day 3. Set up and ready at 7:10am. I'm not 100% sure I'm going to stay here or shift over 50-100 yards or so. But this tree is definitely super comfortable. I'll throw some milkweed and see what the wind is doing once it's light enough to see.

Deercation day 2 the evening report: Set up where I saw deer yesterday. Perfect wind. 0 deer came out. On the walk out, I checked our other field. Every deer was in that field. This is exactly what happened last year. Tomorrow will be a south wind. The toughest wind to hunt on my farm.

Deercation day 2. 3:30pm along the edge of the field where all those deer came out at 5pm yesterday. So you know they are going to come out at the far side where I was sitting last night. 😂 In any case, I couldn't have sat here last night due to wind direction. Ok tonight.

A flurry of activity. No hunting due to snow. 10am: hubby was driving me to the shop to get my truck that had some routine maintenance. Looked at my phone. Shit! Forgot I had an appt. at the bank. So got my truck. Drove to my appt. Then feed store run. Lunch. Deer hunting next?

Day 2 of deercation. Waking up to 26°. Going to have a couple hours of heavy snow this morning so rather than sit in the woods with zero visibility, I'm going to do some errands and then relax around the house. If weather conditions improve, I'll go out this afternoon.

6 does and 3 bucks came out in the field at last light. Instead of choosing the closer-to-me trail to the field, they came out on the far trail. Ended up at 150 yards at their closest which is much too far for my shotgun with open sights.

My afternoon view. I've got a shot into the woods to my right and a shot into the field to my left. 30°F light south wind from my left to my right and heading slightly behind me. There is an open cow pasture behind me. And bedding is all out in front of me. #deer #hunting

I made it out 15 minutes before shooting time. Saw a few headlamps in the surrounding woodlots. Wind is dead calm. 29°F Photo is with night view enhancement. It's not that light out yet.

Opening day of deer season is here.
I realized when I got up that I probably didn't leave enough time to walk/feed dogs, take water to the chickens, eat breakfast, have a morning constitutional, finish packing and make it to my spot before legal shooting time. 🤦♀️😂😝

One of my extra roosters that I had a local Amish woman butcher recently is in the crockpot for a slow cook to make broth and cook the meat to pull. I'll make chicken noodle soup once the broth is cooked, cooled, fat skimmed and strained.
Meanwhile, Thanksgiving leftovers for dinner.😋

Had a flurry of activity this morning. Took hubby to his doctor's appointment and then we made a WalMart run. Picked up the dogs from where I boarded them on Thanksgiving holiday. Just ate lunch. I was starving! Now I feel a nap coming on. Both dogs & hubby are already napping.😂

We only got about 2" of snow thankfully. I was outside shoveling and salting the sidewalk to the house this morning and a flock of tundra swans flew over. It was beautiful. 🥰🥰🥰
