If you're watching Heated Rivalry and thinking, "Holy shit there's all this sex and pleasure and fun and yearning and character exploration and I think they might figure it out and find happiness, is this even legal???" I am begging you to start reading genre romance, you are going to be thrilled!

Kinda want to rewatch episode 3 of Heated Rivalry

The WHY IS THERE SO MUCH BONING IN THE BONING GENRE "Heated Rivalry" takes are so much less interesting than the ones from young gay men being broken open in real time by discovering yearning.

the only thing i have to say about this acquisition announcement is that it’s a great day to watch SENTIMENTAL VALUE. ☺️
December 5, 2025 at 5:28 PM
i haven’t seen an AVATAR film since the first one during my senior year of college. i just attended my 15yr reunion this spring. no plans to change that. 🤣
December 5, 2025 at 12:27 AM
all but TRAIN DREAMS and MARTY SUPREME — will probably see the former this weekend and i already have a ticket booked for the latter.

i won’t be seeing AVATAR or WICKED.
How many of these films have you seen? Sadly, only one for me (Sinners). I must catch up before the Oscars. This list is a good predictor for Best Picture nominations. I’ve heard great things about Bugonia, Train Dreams (filmed in WA!), Frankenstein and Hamnet.

tricky thing with Sinners is we end up centring "white vampires vs black musicians" in our conversations, failing to take into account that the movie is literally called "Sinners," opens with a guy choosing whether to stay in his dad's church, and every conversation in the movie is about choices
December 4, 2025 at 2:47 PM
SO clear. (and it's generally coogler's choices that don't work for me that make this most clear, lol.)
in any case i’d describe coogler (like peele) as very much being the children of stephen spielberg and if they were white this would be abundantly clear

I've said this before about Coogler but basically any white director with his resume of hit making would be treated as the second coming of Spielberg, the way JJ Abrams was (with less justification) like 10-15 years ago.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it's how we end up talking about Sinners and Nope like they're naturally aligned, instead of talking about how Nope, Barbie, Oppenheimer, and Sinners together mark the dawn of a new age of existentialist blockbusters
black creators of various stripes are often forced into categories so as to make them legible and (i’d say) shrink the ambitions of their work.

haven’t stopped laughing at this yet.
Pantone’s 2026 color of the year is technically not a color at all — meet Cloud Dancer, the first-ever white shade to receive the designation from the world’s color authority.
Pantone makes a surprising choice for its 2026 color of the year
We did not see that coming.

Everyone in Chicago needs to read this AND TAKE ACTION. Everyone else should read this and ask what's happening where you are with your public library systems.
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has proposed disastrous cuts to our city's libraries while setting aside $5M for a ShotSpotter replacement. As library associate Sara Heymann told me, “Libraries embody everything we need to fight back against fascism.” My piece on what’s at stake and how to fight back:
You Can’t Fight Fascism While Defunding Libraries

I can't stress enough that you should take every opportunity that comes your way to support your local public libraries. Many of them are currently struggling and are being DEFUNDED. Local action matters on this front. Don't sit back until those libraries are gone before taking ACTION.
