I'm a father, husband, brother, and Senior Software Engineering Manager working for Microsoft. I live in the Eastside suburbs of Seattle. I enjoy problem solving, talking with people, being outside, building and fixing things.
I saw a post a few days ago that I've been thinking a lot about. It was echoing something I've heard before, which is that only rich people can afford to own stock. While there are a lot of ways in which that may be true, i.e. risk exposure, it's also not as hard to start as people think.

Tariffs like these raise prices and don't work.

But if you skipped class the day we all learned that – here's a refresher:

My wife and best-man share a birthday. We're playing a recurring game together that requires holding a lot of cards. So for their birthday I made them some card holders from a piece of maple from a tree in my yard.

Since I have defended and supported the WaPo in the months since the election and the infamous pulled endorsement, I feel obliged to say: this is very, very bad. A dear friend at a Post vet says it's the worst thing to happen to the Post in its long history, and I can't argue.

This week I've been working on teaching myself how to target steelhead. My fishing mentors tell me this water is too high and cloudy. My philosophy, especially while I'm learning, is that the only way to guarantee I don't catch a fish is to not get a hook in the water. Bonus: it's time outside.

The thing about letting people know your pronouns - it's not just about trans / non-binary. Have you ever worked with someone with a gender neutral name? Have you ever worked with someone with a name from another language you don't know?

Getting someone's pronouns right is just polite

My first job was as a youth ice hockey referee. I took it very seriously, but the pressure was enormous. After enduring countless instances of harassment, lack of support from my local hockey organization forced me (and the majority of my peers) to quit. /1

Roundover bit did a nice job knocking the sharp edges off. I wore the appropriate amount of PPE.

Old cutting board gave up after 12 years. I had some extra beech onhand, so I decided to cut, plane, and glue it up. Planing was by hand, other cuts were electric.

Huge shout out to @seattlekraken.com for moving from Root Sports (an RSN that required cable/Fubo) to a broadcast partner that makes the games available free over the air, and Amazon for streamers. I'm saving $100/month this year. Maybe I'll spend that extra cash on tickets and merch ;)

To get WireGuard to work on my Windows machine with 24H2 I had to turn on the feature "Virtual Machine Platform". To me quite a while to find that answer, I was tearing my hair out.

This is a picture I used to pull up on my Twitter. I took and posted this photo with no filters applied around 7:00 a.m.. my wife and I woke up after a windstorm the night before to all of the wildfire smoke from Oregon, Washington, and BC being channeled right to us. AQI was somewhere in the 700s.

I think I got DNS configured correctly now, but it's going to take a while for the changes to propagate.

Personal website is down after transferring the DNS record. Balancing parenting duties with getting that back up. My uptime is high enough that it could be down for a day or two before I fall below 99.9% 😜 I'm sure people are devastated for the delayed access to my years old thoughts about packaging

I have deactivated my X account, @mkstrobel. I hope that makes some tiny indicator on some KPI somewhere that sends Elon the signal that his actions have tangibly damaged the platform, and sent loyal users to less established alternatives.
