In FFXVI, religious converts gather at Mikkelburg to be cleansed of their sins and attain salvation, as instructed by King Barnabas. It’s here that the relic Titus emerges. Saints Barnabas and Titus were early Christians who baptised others and converted them to Christianity.

The term ‘ifrit’ appears once in the Islamic Qur’an and is typically translated from Arabic as a ‘mighty’ or ‘rebellious’ jinn (genie). These characteristics are embodied by Ifrit in Final Fantasy XVI, who is immensely strong and acts in direct defiance of the fate of Mythos.

Derived from an earlier Egyptian deity, Harpocrates was the god of silence and secrets for the ancient Greeks. He was associated with Alexandria, Egypt, a centre of knowledge in antiquity. This is why the lore master and record keeper in Final Fantasy XVI shares his name.

A famous Arthurian legend concerns the hero Tristan escorting Princess Isolde to marry his noble uncle, but the two fall in love. This is alluded to in FFXVI when Clive takes his lover Jill to meet his Uncle Byron at Port Isolde, en route to Mt. Drustanus - Tristan’s Latin name.
