Yesterday's walk around the farm: Sassafras leaves from a favorite native North American tree. Young leaves are dried for Creole filé powder or used as aromatic teas; root-bark makes a satisfying flavoring. As a bonus, dried twigs and branches make *excellent* fire starters.

Today's walk around the farm: cottage roses. We love their smell, and we happily share rosehips with our horses as healthy treats. #gardening 🌱 #rosehips

Saturday's walk around the farm: barn swallows at play, parents and fledglings. They're wonderful pest control for the garden.

(The crunching sound you hear is horses eating their breakfast)

Today's walk around the farm: perennial phlox has started to bloom, which screams summer for us. With daylillies fading, phlox is now a vital food for bees.
