There’s a reason Ezra Levin is on Trump’s enemies list, is being investigated by the government, while no one much cares about Talia Jane.

The venn diagram overlap of people who fall in love with a computer program, but aren’t technically savvy enough to know what an API is?

I think the thing that’s most unsettling is the number of people who believe they have genuine intimacy with a chat bot.

Take a look at the ChatGPT subreddit and a part of you will die inside.

A community of people incensed that open AI killed their friend, 4o.

Oh, I see what you’re saying.

I don’t know, though, just look at the ChatGPT subreddit, and there’s an entire community of people who believe openAI committed murder by removing the previous model that they became friends with.

I think the illusion of a real person talking to lonely people can be very powerful, especially if they are then selling exclusive videos for someone in their horniest moments

You’d be surprised. There was (RIP) an Australian content creator who used AI to handle all of his fan interactions, post/comment across social media for engagement, and people bought into it and quite fully

another thing people don't realize when they fantasize about "the AI crash" is that you're going to see a *lot* more slop and harmful use of AI whenever the big companies do crash, because the crash would drop GPU prices drastically & make cybercriminals etc. training models much, much cheaper

I want an AI-powered chat bot for sexting BUT it can only speak in the vocal stylings of Joan Rivers

I loved riding around them when visiting LA! It was so nice to not have to do any awkward small talk

I had it offered to me twice this morning, once at the kiosk when I had to self-tag my bag, and again at bag drop-off??

There are definitely serious concerns over the technology, but if I was assigning blame to anything for overall net-negative impact, I think TikTok deserves a hell of a lot more scorn than AI does, personally.

I'm not defending any of the business moves of the elites, which are atrocious - what OpenAI did with Sora especially was very "you can't touch us".

But this thread began with prompt engineering and I just don't think it's that unreasonable an activity - like I said, it's part of my daily workflow.

Venice’s monopoly over pepper sparked the entire Age of Exploration.

The Dutch committed genocide over nutmeg in the Banda Islands.

The transatlantic slave trade was largely fueled by sugar.

And salt is why we have the word “salary” - it was essentially currency in Ancient Rome.

it is so wild that humans used to go to WAR over things that are just common in a spice cabinet nowadays

Perhaps instead of Columbus Day we can celebrate Columbian Exchange Day where we celebrate the food pairings that had never been possible before, peppers and onions, chocolate and coffee, basil and tomatoes.

Now, yes. But two years ago you couldn’t do it at all and now I’ve been able to put together a little tower defense minigame for my D&D campaign as a little teaser for our upcoming session.

I don’t think it devalues work of skilled people - it will allow them to focus on more complex projects.
