Trying to find more avant-garde music or tribal ambient from the Philippines. Never knew this composer but a fellow Filipino friend rec’d it. Was on the Tzadik label. It’s very fitting for Halloween sonically. Purely gongs, percussive sounds, voices, and chants inside a temple.

I haven’t finished it but I’ve been watching it in chunks. Also imo most of the important/engaging stuff is in the first 2 hour segment. Some incredibly fun anecdotes/soundbytes, highly recommended.

Yeah my take on it being best is cuz it does sit so well between the two that I think best represent their two greatest strengths. I gotta brush up on their post decemberunderground stuff, but I find it unlikely that I’ll enjoy it more than their late 90s/early 00s material.

Now I may be from rural Alaska so my engagement with The Culture is pretty idiosyncratic but just from being in high school most of that time, the differences in alt/scene/punk culture from 03-06 were huge and StS was a big part of why

My Big AFI Opinions are that black sails is my favorite, art of drowning is their “best” and sing the sorrow is their most important. And it’s not that I dislike pre-Jade stuff, it’s just that it doesn’t really much stand out from the greater 90s skate punk/hardcore milieu to me
