The crimes against humanity by the "red" side is obviously often forgotten because the winning "white" side resorted also to atrocities, and as they won, they continued in large scale until the end of 1918, when their supporter Germany collapsed. During the war, the crimes were similar in scale.

Of course, the problems you name were real. But the majority of Finns wanted to remedy them. The Civil War was the result of radicals on the "Red" side trying to seize power by force after the socialists had lost the 1917 parliamentary election. They lost the election because of the unrest in 1917.

Luckily for us Finns, both (Soviet) Russia and (imperial) Germany lost WWI. As a result, power was taken by the moderates after 1919 parliamentary election. They started immediately to remedy the issues which had resulted in Civil War.

Unfortunately your view is very naive. The socialists were led to war by a few radical agitators, partly to preserve their own power which was being challenged. The "red" side was guilty of serious crimes against humanity, particularly when led by these agitators.

It is not correct to downplay fascism in PS. Riikka Purra and Jussi Halla-aho are full-blown fascists, who got their political ideology in Suomen sisu, the "cryptofascist" organization which has rehabilitated the Lapuan liike - IKL tradition. Everybody who votes for Purra or Halla-aho is a fascist.

Finns party members are not nationalists, they are fascists. The main tenet of Finnish fascism from Lapuan liike through IKL to PS is "ryssäviha", hate of Russians. The other is hate of socialists and communists. They can be expected to fight Russians, but they would like to fight socialists too.

The attempt to avoid open war is more linked for instance to why the Russian shadow fleet is still partly allowed in the Baltic sea (Sea blockade is an act of war) and why planes breaching airspace are not shot down if they are not penetrating deeper.
