SNAP—the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program—will not be going out November 1st, leaving 42 million individuals without benefits to supplement their food income. We know this will impact many of our readers and bookselling partners.

Here's how you can help: 🫶🏻 Donate money or time to your local food bank, so they can keep your community fed. ❤️ Add food into free pantries, or start your own. ☎️ Contact your representatives at a local and state level to urge them to restore and fund SNAP and WIC. 🫂 Contribute to and get involved in mutual aid groups

And where to get help: 🥫 Many food banks are preparing for an increase in aid. They are here to help your community. 🥡 Visit a free pantry near you for shelf-stable products. 🍲 Many local businesses are offering free meals for those on SNAP. Ask around to see who is participating. 🛒 Companies like Gopuff and DoorDash are offering groceries to impacted individuals

Aging is so complicated. I grew up with a mom who was obsessed with her body. Always too fat too wrinkled too saggy too pale (and a total knockout, so yeah).

Trying to make peace with my face as it changes and embrace and love it while that voice still lingers, shaming me for showing time.

If you want to get your sea legs on mutual aid, one thing you can do is throw a 24 pack of water and some individually packaged nonperishable snacks in your trunk and just keep your eyes open.

Pulling over and offering water to a person in distress can be a much bigger help than you realize.
