If you don’t like being called a racist, maybe don’t make a career of saying things that appeal to racists, don’t create a political party that keeps attracting racist candidates, don’t fawn over racist world leaders, and don’t make a convicted racist the guest of honour at your party conference.

What's causing the housing crisis in the UK?

🚤 Reform think it's the 40k people that arrived by irregular means.

🏡 Over 300k households presented as homeless in each of the last 2 years.

🏚️There are 1.5 million vacant or unoccupied dwellings in the UK.

💰190k properties in the UK are foreign owned

Been a very tiring and depressing week at Solihull Council. The psychodrama of the Conservative group has done serious harm to the reputation of the authority.

There are laws and guidance on how things operate FOR GOOD REASON!

It’s to protect the effective functioning of local government.

A very controversial meeting of Council this evening.

An unprecedented 6 motions being considered. 3 of them relate to a lack of democratic norms on the Council, proposed by the Green Group, Lib Dems, and Independents.

A Conservative motion attempts to remove independent chairs of scrutiny!

I just voted against proscribing Palestine Action, a civil disobedience group, as a terrorist organisation. But I'm furious that in doing so, the government forced me and others to vote against proscribing two other clearly terrorist groups. Cynical and dangerous from govt.

As another heatwave hits the UK, the UK Green Building Council have said the UK’s schools, care homes and offices are not equipped for the effects of global heating.

We need a maximum working temperature and urgent adaptation to protect people from the effects of extreme heat.

Bluesky was invented to create a nicer space than Twitter. The problem is that too few people have joined and most are smug and boring.

❗️ Cutting disability support won’t help people back into work.

And it won’t help people who are already working.

Shockingly, cuts could drive 3.2 MILLION people deeper into hardship.

Doing the same thing and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity.

So why are Solihull Conservatives cutting funding and expecting services to improve?

They would rather call the cuts “service transformation”. Orwell would be proud.

Such sad news that Stroud icon and Green luminary John Marjoram died this morning

He was driven by his love for other people and the planet and his desire for peace

His grasp of political strategy was extraordinary and laid the groundwork for the success we're now seeing as Greens

🧵 1/7 Solihull's Democratic deficit:

Tuesday evening I met the outgoing and incoming Leaders of Solihull Council to discuss appointments to outside bodies of the Council.

41 positions were contested and the incoming Leader expressed a wish to reduce the time dignitaries watched voting.

Rejecting something doesn’t change the fact it was said, or who said it before.

You cannot hold two opposing positions simultaneously.

We heard it. We see it. We know what was meant.

Less than a year after the country saw racist riots, I'm deeply concerned to see the PM following Reform's agenda.

We all want to live in united communities but that requires investment.

And won't be helped by divisive rhetoric.

If it took this article to shock anyone’s support for Reform then they either weren’t paying attention, or it was never about making things better.

Reform sells a poison that the buyer hopes will be taken by their enemies.

Labour are harming themselves and the country by using it in government.
The Economist estimates that the annual costs of Reform UK’s manifesto would be around £200bn and savings around £100bn. The gap would amount to a colossal fiscal shock, blowing up the deficit and straining the gilt market to its limit
