MacCurtain Street Cork 1945 formerly King Street it was renamed after the murder of Tomas MacCurtain in April 1920 by the then Lord Mayor Terence MacSwiney under the Lord Mayor's items at the Cork Corporation meeting.
The Coal Quay (Cornmarket Street) in the early 1960's. A book published in the 1990's called "From an Anchor to a Needle " described this Street very well at one stage you buy almost anything there.

Born #Onthisday 1885 nurse Aoife de Búrca who treated the injured (including James Connolly) during the #EasterRising at the Hibernian Hotel & the GPO & carried messages through the chaos. She returned to nursing for #Dublin Corporation, dedicating her life to care.
Back in 2021 after some searching found the grave of May and Lil Conlon at Kilcrea Friary Cork. Lil's book "Cumann na mBan and the women of Ireland " is well worth reading. Great information on the War of Independence in the Cork area.
Brid Duggan sister of Peg , Annie and Sarah. Brid was a national school teacher near her home in Blackpool Cork. Unlike her three sisters she was a staunch supporter of De Valera she had a photo of him displayed prominently at her home on Cathedral Street.

Left to right Lil Conlon, Sarah Duggan, Kate Breen from Kerry is standing ( not properly visible) and May Conlon all republican. All except Kate Breen supported the treaty. Kate eventually became a Fianna Fail councillor. The Conlons lived in Shanakiel Cork.
Sarah Langford one of the Duggan sisters from Blackpool Cork a seamstress by trade worked from home had to endure numerous raids on the house by the Black and Tans a friend of Michael Collins she supported the treaty. She went through great difficulties to get a pension for her service.
