About me: Followed #skystorians here in Sept 2023. Lover of the ๐Ÿ—ƒ๏ธ. Writing my dissertation on ghost stories as a resistance archive in the U.S. South. Broad study topics include: violence, power, memory, archive. Second year adjunct, so Iโ€™m working on balance. ABD. Defense ~Spring 2026.
Don't worry, once I go and figure out the dress code for this conference, I'll forget to write it down for you so you'll get to awkwardly ask someone who doesn't care anymore & says to just wear hawaiian shirts and then you'll go and forget and we can keep this charade going for a long, long time.
This is specifically the space I am engaging in. I just want to say hello and that there are other ways to write history that achieve rigor while honoring the intent of Hartman. ๐Ÿ—ƒ๏ธ
It is so painful to watch. I want to transform the class into a safe space but they're scared of collective spaces.
...Millennials were in online communities acting like college students do, giving one another a hard time, while Gen Z kids were sort of free-exploring those college spaces and becoming terrified by the hazing/trolling. Something like this.
Millennials are generally earnest. It made social media work for a time I think. We received the trolling and shrugged because it was devoid of meaning. I'm just now learning the Gen Z kids were watching and became terrified they would be bullied. I'm not exactly sure how it all worked out except...
I wish I could box you up and bring your message home as a present to my two Gen Alphas in upper elementary school staring down the horror that is Middle School next year.
Allow me to tell you I'm a millennial without telling you I'm a millennial by noting that, generally, Gen X is the parent group of Gen Z.
This is so interesting. Do they get clique-ish?
That is fascinating. What do you make of their anti-cringe culture?
Gen Z rejects earnestness because they grew up online where bullies picked on earnest/concerned/caring people and made others laugh at them for their investment. We are seeing this in the classroom, the kids are afraid to be earnest in learning. Safety is a prerequisite to education. ๐Ÿ—ƒ๏ธ

it's good to say aloud that "content" is not a synonym for "literature"
Now that Iโ€™ve learned how to merge PDFs, Iโ€™m dangerous.
Battling json errors doesn't sound as riveting as battling a dark wizard from another dimension but it sure is fulfilling. ๐Ÿ—ƒ๏ธ
Oh I love this. I think I could present a paper on the railroad as cover for racial violence in North Texas if that would fit the direction you want to head.

I love unnecessarily sexy statues. My favorite being Thirst Trap Lincoln from the LA County Superior Courthouse.
Also they have wide access to pornography and have no need for random nudity. Itโ€™s just awkward if it isnโ€™t your only acceptable source of that material.
Eh also theyโ€™re young yet and are mirroring โ€œgood moral viewsโ€ for benefits in this godforsaken economy

Alas, I'm far too beautiful for this advice to help me in any way
Someday we will talk about someoneโ€™s keen sense of systemic violence instead of their โ€œobsession with victimhoodโ€
I love this! I am in history finishing my dissertation on ghost stories as a resistance archive so your affection for Gordon is what caught my eye!
