I think the “transitions are not possible under communism” crowd are stuck in a parodical view of communism as unable to fill our individualized self fulfillment needs, and that it somehow demands self annihilation, poor service quality and poor life quality in order to sustain itself as a system.

Just to be clear, I don’t think transitioning makes you bougie, and I don’t think transitioning is bougie. Sorry that I came across that way. I mean that in the current system, access to transition is dangled by the ruling class as a bougie luxury incentive to play their game. Which is fucked.

As you’re saying, most wage laborers in the US can not complete or sustain their medical transitions under the US system, only the bourgeoisie can. Medical transitions are not bougie in a socialist system, though. To every person according to need.

The only reason they stopped forcibly castrating queers in 2016(!!!!) was that we got a new law that made it hard. They still kept arguing that if you don’t want to be castrated, you’re not really trans, are ya? 🙂 And the doctors now get conversion therapy conference tickets paid for by the state.

In his book “Standardizing Sex” Slagstad shows that the Norwegian state deliberately destroyed the health of trans people in order to protect the binary gender norms. The people who used to forcibly castrate us are still in charge, and refuse to apologize for or acknowledge their violence.

Staten og Legeforeningen bør be om unnskyldning for overgrepene begått mot transpersoner. Folk som ble tvunget til kastrering for å skifte juridisk kjønn, må få oppreisning. I boka «Standardizing Sex» viser jeg at staten vel vitende ofret folks reproduktive helse for å beskytte en binær kjønnsnorm.

Oh yeah 100%, that’s exactly why it sucks so much that disclosure is my only source of control. Just the vibe shift of a stranger clocking me when I open my mouth because I didn’t voice train is enough to throw me off sometimes.

- Without the patients' consent to participate in research
