It’s must-win. To say it isn’t (which some are) is to say there are no must-wins.

Obviously, the season doesn’t end if we lose or draw, but it certainly gives us a clear indication of how much we should worry, how comfortable the manager is, how twitchy the owners will be feeling.

Found this pic of him (circled in purple) from his academy days in Paris. Was recently described by Arsene Wenger as “world class fox in the box” who apparently has never left France yet because all he eats is this strange, battered-based savoury pudding his mother makes. Weird.

I guess the issue is that Letterboxd ratings are arbitrary. Individuals might have their own system (your “enjoyed 80%”, my “a 4 star film is one I’d watch again next week”) but the lack of enforced rules means nothing is universal. Thankfully.

Getafe is super easy to get to from the centre of Madrid - about 25 mins on the train from Sol and then a similar amount of time on foot through the residential area to the Coliseum. I went at the back end of the 23/24 season, had a great time.

It seems odd to me that a “working environment” which requires people to focus on a specific thing for 2 hours is welcoming quite obvious distractions.

Feels more like pandering to demands than creating an environment conducive to given the film your full attention.

I always say this and have said it here recently - Franco’s cancellation was performative; he was an easy target at a time when they wanted to make an example of someone during MeToo. He can’t complain because he’s undoubtedly done some horrid things, but nobody cares eg that Brad Pitt is an abuser.

When Kalvin Phillips is 50 and people ask him about his career, he’ll say he won a Champions League & FA Cup with City, attended two major tournaments with England and also won the Championship with Leeds under the famous Marcelo Bielsa. Nobody will ask about his minutes.

But like I said before, it depends how much value he places on that. He’s still a footballer, he’s still training as a job. I think if he was an ambitious guy, he could have forced his way out of Man City by now. It’s a dream career regardless.

Winning a medal with your boyhood club is special, but securing the bag at City and knowing your children will never want for anything in life… that’s also special, just in a different way. Especially when your own dad has been a chocolate fire guard your whole life.

I could be completely wrong but I’ve always got the impression that he’s just not really driven in that way and is happy if he’s having a nice time. Maybe it’s the dimples, I don’t know.
