I was nervous about agitators last time and am moreso this time, especially because ours takes place along a busy road with no sidewalks/other meaningful barriers between demonstrators and drivers. But I'm still going, dammit!

I find it so disturbing and alarming (and sadly, not surprising) that their messaging about this rally is so uniform/organized *and* so designed to generate outrage from their (heavily armed) base

I couldn't tell how many people were at ours — several hundred if not in the thousands — but our region is pretty spread out so there were a few others happening at the same time. I imagine this one may be even bigger. I'm going to try to bring a friend!

I am upset about too many things to fit on a sign so this feels appropriate!

The demonstration I went to in June was one of the most uplifting experiences I've had since the inauguration. The only hate I saw was from the handful of drivers who flipped us off. It was nice to be surrounded by people who care. Now accepting ideas for a sign. (My best idea is just "NOPE")

The House Majority Whip is also insisting that a peaceful "No Kings" demonstration is in fact a "hate America rally" held for the "terrorist wing" of the Democratic Party.

Really feels like they're trying to manifest a violent reaction to it.

Emmer: "This is about one thing and one thing alone -- to score political points with the terrorist wing of their party, which is set to hold a hate America rally in DC next week."

so interesting! Love that you have a spreadsheet, also!

I tried Trazadone and it made me feel as though I were plummeting off a cliff into sleep. Was so alarming it woke me up! Maybe a half dose would be better. Or maybe I just need a better melatonin.

as a fellow ASD parent (of littles), I've been watching this closely. They're catching (and presumably punishing) at least some of the kids making the threats ... how is this continuing? It's so disruptive.

People ask what they can do in this moment: here's a crucially important election. There are 52,000 elections taking place next month, many of which will be determined by turnout.

this fellow needs to resign. He's a disgrace. I, like many other Pennsylvanians, deeply, deeply regret voting for him.

"As Democrat Josh Siegel decried a recent military-style raid by immigration officials on a Chicago apartment building — with agents rappelling onto the building from a Black Hawk helicopter and zip-tying residents — a number of people in the audience laughed."

Neighbors ... do better.

what worked for you? Because I've asked my doc for those too and the ones I've tried so far just make me very tired but still awake 😭

👀 now I must know more

P.S. Have been meaning to send you a note anyway because Hot Dog Tommy's is now exorbitantly expensive and I wanted to know if you had any other shore hot dog recs 😂

I am glad I saw this post because I am now realizing how weird and gross this is. (My last years in publishing were the beginning of the "e-commerce/affiliate links will save our jobs" era and that kind of blinded me to this.)

twice a year the entire U.S. press becomes a marketing extension of a single billionaire-owned retailer, and nobody in any position of editorial power thinks it's weird or gross

Practice stillness. At some point in my 30s, the constant onslaught of stimuli and information really caught up to me, physically and emotionally. That's how I ended up in a mindfulness-based stress reduction course, which sometimes feels impossibly challenging *and* I wish I'd taken it sooner.

Bari Weiss introduced herself to CBS News staff today on the network's 9AM call, saying she wants to "win," which requires restoring trust to CBS. She also said she was excited for staff to get to know the Free Press, and ended her remarks by saying: "Let's do the fucking news."

I suspect this will be about as good for morale as when the running publication I once worked for brought in an EIC who led her first staff meeting with "running sucks. everyone knows it." Crickets.
