Trans people exist, have always existed, and will loved and valued, no matter what their government tells them.

(Also, I’m a part of the government, and I’m here to tell you I love you + I won’t stop fighting for you no matter what!)

Conversion therapy is NOT THERAPY. It is not recognized therapeutic or ethical by the APA or the ACA.
meganhunt.bsky.social
Nobody needs the abusive and debunked “treatment” known as conversion therapy—and LGBTQ+ youth need to know they are loved and accepted as they are. As long as I’m in the legislature I’ll be working to ban it in Nebraska.

Defending conversion therapy is like defending the prescription of heroin for a cough. That was done at one time, but we know better now.

Govt regulates the medical industry to keep ppl safe. This is no different than any other modern regulations to protect consumers & patients.

No reputable medical or psychological association supports conversion therapy. Being LGBTQ+ is not an illness, and we don’t need to be cured.

We have been working to ban conversion therapy in Nebraska since 2019. With my LB 367, we could be next to ban this inhumane practice.

Media training has gone too far for some of these candidates for office—we can tell when candidates are speaking to donors and not to voters. No more memorized talking points that actually say nothing! We want proof that our leaders can recognize a genocide when they see one.

If the Judiciary Committee won’t act, my colleagues and I will continue to press for answers through public forums, media, community meetings & legal review.

Nebraskans deserve oversight—not excuses, not delay tactics, and not elected officials playing dumb.

As Judiciary Chair, Sen. Bosn has the authority to hold a hearing any time she chooses. She doesn’t need permission from the Governor or the executive branch to do her job. Refusing to act shields the administration from accountability.

It’s disappointing but not surprising that Sen. Bosn denied our request for a public hearing on the Governor’s plan to hand over a Nebraska prison to ICE. These are not questions that can be answered behind closed doors or in private conversations.

Governor Pillen wants to hand Nebraska’s Work Ethic Camp in McCook over to ICE without legislative approval, public input, or transparency. This raises not just ethical concerns, but serious legal, fiscal, and safety questions. My colleagues and I are calling for answers.🧵

Tell them to contact the press for sure - or my office, and we can connect them.

Nebraska prisons are overcrowded and understaffed, and instead of fixing it, the Governor wants to hand one over to ICE. We’ve called for a Judiciary Committee hearing because the people deserve to know: Who will be held there? Under what authority? At what cost?

Even this feels like nothing because working within a broken extralegal system is so difficult … but it’s something.

With 12 of my colleagues, I’ve called on Judiciary Chair Carolyn Bosn to hold a public hearing so Nebraskans can get real answers.
meganhunt.bsky.social
Under what authority can the Gov hand a state prison to ICE?

What happens to staff already struggling w overcrowding + understaffing?

Who exactly will be held in McCook—“low-risk detainees,” as Pillen said, or “the worst of the worst,” as DHS claims?

Do you think every person agrees on where the best place in the world is or has the means to move there
meganhunt.bsky.social
Let people move around in the world
It is good for us all when people can live where they want to live
Making a home somewhere new is already difficult enough
Borders do not matter and are not a big deal
All people have the right to seek safety
That’s it!

In Nebraska, I couldn’t win, so I’m not interested – I’m just gonna stay in Omaha and do my best to help the people here.
