all the obvious external factors aside, my biggest problem with generative "AI" is that it's not being used to free up creators, unleash their potential, open up new avenues of expression the way it was advertised. it's being used to skimp on labor costs, cut corners, and maximize efficiency.
Why am I so against generative AI in games?
Because I simply do not want my initial reaction to art to be one of suspicion and scrutiny, AI slop is fundamentally damaging my relationship to art and artistry, and I am deeply resentful that it is forcing me to be guarded when I should be wowed.

i think there is definitely an overreliance on this argument in film analysis circles, it's a more complicated thing than "old stuff looks better, new stuff looks worse," but there ARE trends at play here related to specific identifiable changes in the material process of film production

artists should want their audiences to suffer in the sense that artists should not shrink away at the possibility of someone having a negative experience. trying to appeal to a broad general audience will rarely result in more than unremarkable, milquetoast art. suffering is the filter.
