Last time Spurs were playing PSG I was walking around Nice at the end of a glorious holiday. Tonight I am on the #CheeseandStollen. Hope the @decadesfromhome.bsky.social crew are having a good cheese and stollen season!

It’s the end of an era, or at least it’s the end of this podcast. After 250 episodes, Nic, Simon, and Producer Simon have reached their final episode. No, I’m not crying…you’re crying…

Find out more on Ep 249, coming Saturday morning!

I'm biased, but this is a great episode. I laughed my way through the first 20 minutes this morning whole cleaning the kitchen - which it could be said was managed "Ruckizucki"
For our penultimate episode we have a listener email to pore over. We also outline strategies for maximising a hotel buffet. Finally Nic tells us about a dream pub lunch and we ponder who sends out the worst tourists, Britain or Germany?

Ep 249: "Vorletzte Haltestelle". Out now!

@decadesfromhome.bsky.social has the cheese and stollen season opened yet over the border? Gorgonzola and other blue cheeses and a Marzipan Feststollen duly assembled in Vienna.

#OutOnTheCache - went up from Salmannsdorf to the Schafberg and picked up a couple of caches.

Back to work in the morning after holidays in the Côte d'Azur, Liguria and Hamburg. Really enjoyed speaking and reading French again!

We're in Nice for the final couple of days of our family holiday. This picture, from our previous trip here in 2015, was taken just before a torrential downpour.

We have a shared Outlook calendar at work to record everyone's leave. We don't work weekends. It irritates me no end when someone books two weeks off and their entry goes over the weekend days as one long block rather than it going on as two five-day blocks.

Another day, another bakery. Popping out to grab fresh bread, croissants and pains au chocolat for the family. Can feel the holiday feelings kicking in and recharging of batteries. Off to Ile Sainte Marguerite by boat today.

Seven years ago I became an Austrian citizen, naturalising with my son. I remember settling the bill with three crisp 500 euro notes (cash payment was required!) www.frombrexittoexbrit.com/2018/07/11/f...

This envelope, with info about my Year Abroad in 1997/98 marked the start of my Austrian adventure. When I opened it as a 20 year old back then, little did I know that 28 years later, I would be living in Vienna and married with children. 7 years ago today I became an Austrian citizen.

Overheard on the bus into work "hell, I've bled more shaving my legs than Trump's ear bled". Followed by "If there is any justice, it'll be a heart attack while on the John!" So enthralled listening, I nearly missed my stop.

Last evening I attended a Vernissage at the former Vienna University of Economics and Business buildings. Some windows had colour foil on them. So I took these two pictures through the foil. Yellow is looking towards the city centre, blue down towards the 9th district.

I've applied a few nips and tucks to a blog post from 2023 - about my childhood life in the mid-1980s. Published under a punny title on Substack. Enjoy! open.substack.com/pub/humantra...
Geneva say Geneva again.
This post, which originally appeared in 2023 on my personal website was inspired by a childhood nostalgia piece by an Englishman, James, who lives in Graz.

Glorious day at Hohe Warte for Women's Bundesliga - #FVFC sadly on the wrong end of a 4-0 scoreline vs St Pölten. But my daughter enjoyed it, which is the main thing.
