So, Netflix cancelled Mindhunter, but it happily funds absolute misogynistic garbage like Monster: The Ed Gein Story. Legit one of the worst things I’ve ever seen.

Yeah they were a fad for a while but never really took off

as somebody who has been to hundreds of press shows over the years as a film writer, people managed to cope fine without torches or phones or laptops. Taking notes is relatively easy with pen and paper.

Yeah it’s just about social media posts now, not the films

Out today from @secondsightfilms.bsky.social. It was an honour to do the commentary along with my darlst Kat Ellinger. I still think it’s Big Sean’s best film to date. And that’s saying something.

Can all those popular filmmakers with their giant megaphones who went after motion smoothing on TV please go after laptops and phones in screenings too? Surely there's a lot of cinematographers who will have something to say about this.

LFF allowing laptops and phones for note taking in the press screenings is end of the world stuff. What happened to pen and paper, or just watching it and concentrating?

The montage of Diane Keaton crying is so funny. She was a superb comedian.

Now watching: Something’s Gotta Give (2003). Diane Keaton and Big Jack are great together in this. RIP Diane Keaton.

It’s too much to think about!

Also assuming the costumes in Something’s Gotta Give were a reference to their beach walking scene in Reds.

Oh no. Sometimes the obituaries just seem to come in like waves. Generations pass, I suppose. The water gets closer.

Always found the notion that horror should definitionally be 'scary' an odd one, because by that standard, so few films qualify as horror, unless you're 12 years old or under. My personal preference is for 'disorienting', 'unsettling' and 'upsetting', and none of those actually require scares.

The best horror makes me feel tense rather than scared. I don’t need horror to make me feel scared, social interactions more than fulfil that emotional response.

Threw on the new Criterion of NIGHTMARE ALLEY 2021 and forgot that the reappearance of Richard Jenkins and Mary Steenburgen makes this the Catalina Wine Mixer of Guillermo Del Toro's oeuvre.

A damn shame Liam Gavin hasn't made a follow up, it was a cracking debut...

If you are looking for an unusual, tense, and oddly beautiful horror movie this Halloween, I highly recommend A Dark Song, should it have escaped your notice before.

What John said

I’ve seen a lot of people lashing out at Ridley Scott for his ragebait interview. a) he’s an old geezer; give him a break b) his bad films are more interesting than most good films c) his good films have imprinted cinema significantly d) Gladiator II was gash but the Last Duel… come on.
