The issue was "...shy from confrontation..." or not.

This was your statement:
"1st When has Germany ever been shy from military confrontation?"

I am trying to explain to you that the Germans were very much shy of it since 1945 -whereas you questioned exactly that.

The new army was born in 1956 "German Bundeswehr". The cold war was in full swing. And the threat was significant.
The Bundeswehr had a full draft and stood up 10 + heavy Divisions.
Including sizable naval and air force complements.

Yet, despite all this there was no interest in a confrontation.
