Last week, students relieved stress by painting rocks, knitting, and petting Yankee the therapy dog in the LeRoy V. Good Library to refresh and recharge before the end of the semester. Good luck on finals this week!

The last week of classes for 2025 is halfway done and we're looking ahead to 2026 at the Downtown Campus Learning Commons. You can make a wish with us for the New Year! We wish you good final grades for this semester and continued success into the next, and we can help! #MCCLibraries #HappyNewYear
The DCLC Library Circulation Desk top has two computer workstations, an electric pencil sharpener, and a wooden file organizer. The front of the desk is a gray wall, and hanging from the front edge of the blue desktop over the front of the desk are 11 pages of copy paper labeled "Wish 2026" with handwritten messages written on 3 available dotted lines. At another DCLC service desk, 12 additional "Wish 2026" pages hang from the front edge of the desktop. On top of the desk, there are a few potted plants and a box of facial tissues, and behind the desk, there are two bookshelves with colorful book and binder spines visible, plus a framed Patrick Stewart READ poster hanging on the wall. This wish for 2026 says, "Prosperity and equity for all." This wish for 2026 is handwritten in blue, wet ink and says, "People spend less time on their phones/devices and invest in their nondigital lives and in the people they see in the flesh. More connection outside of cyberspace!"

The display at the Downtown Campus Learning Commons features a table display case with a glass top and sides, backed by a wall divider. There are 8 books inside the display case, along with seasonal decorations including snow-covered evergreen trees, a menorah, a dozen ornament bulbs, 3 gold 5-pointed stars, 8 blue 6-pointed stars, green and red poinsettia leaves, and evergreen branches with pine cones and a golden apple. The background wall divider is decorated with singing snowmen created with cut-out paper: two white circles form the bodies, one isosceles triangle forms the noses, black ovals form the open mouths, and red rectangles slightly folded in half form the songbooks. Two snowmen stand side-by-side on blue paper backgrounds, and there are four of these scenes, among which are 4 paper cut-out snowflakes, and four white paper signs with wavy cut top edges to look like snow banks that are labeled "Happy Holidays!" in red script. Books on the left half of the display case are The Story of Hanukkah; Home for the Holidays: Festive Baking with WHole Grains; Hershel and the Hanukkah Goblins; Toot and Puddle: Let it Snow; and Christmas in the Big House, Christmas in the Quarters. Books on the right half of the display case are Christmas with Paula Deen; Kwanzaa: Black Power and the Making of the African-American Holiday Tradition; and The Polar Express.

Each lab starts with a quick 15-minute mini-lesson to get you oriented, then plenty of open time to ask questions or get one-on-one help. Bring your group for group research projects!

Mohammed Tamim Islamkhil came to Rochester, NY in 2023 from his homeland of Afghanistan. He plans to get a degree in Computer Science. Tamim's story reminds us not to take for granted small moments with the ones we love. Read Tamim's story: mccglobalfaces.omeka.net/exhibits/sho...

Chill, Plan, Write: Preparation for Finals. Visit the TAAC for support with final exam planning and help in structuring your papers. You can visit several stations that cater to different stages of your finals preparations. If you're unsure where to start or need guidance on your process, we're here to help! Swing by any station you need help with: creating a study plan, brainstorming and outlining ideas, crafting paragraphs, citation and credible resources, and/or revising your work.

The winner of the 2025 Veterans Day Poster Contest is Jeremy D. Carpenter. Jeremy’s creation, entitled Unified by Service, reflects the 2025 Veterans Day theme “Service to Our Nation” by visually uniting all uniformed services under one flag and one purpose. Jeremy describes his artwork as “formal, structured, and patriotic. It pays tribute to all Veterans regardless of when or where they served, and it emphasizes that service to the nation is not confined to one uniform, one battlefield, or one generation. The eagle, flag, and seals work together to portray unity, honor, and a continued commitment to freedom.”
