My silver birch at home in the UK had a significant leaf drop in August due to extremely dry conditions…but seems to have held on to the remaining leaves for longer than usual. Isn’t nature clever!

According Dr. Robert Atlas, the elimination of NOAA's AOML as proposed in their 2026 budget would result in a 20-40% decrease in hurricane forecast accuracy, costing the economy an estimated $10 billion each hurricane season. Sobering numbers on what's at stake.

Don't let oil bulls fool you. Crude oil extraction, stuff of OPEC quota policy and benchmark prices, is still below a 2018 peak. Investments in exploration and extraction are falling.

2025 investments:
Upstream oil - $420 billion
Solar - $450 billion

To be clear, the centre ground on net zero is that the public are broadly supportive - even if there is some conditionality to that support.

The idea that net zero is a source of significant electoral discomfort for Labour is a zombie political fact.

We've figured out why our Sierra Leone solar vid has so few views. YouTube shadow-banned it as political content. We only found out because, in desperation, we tried to promote it. Apparently saving babies' lives is political in the US today. We have appealed, but WTAF!

In Brussels for the #EuropeanClimatePact session with Wopke Hoekstra, European Commissioner for Climate Action.

Big focus on European competitiveness - need to double down on breaking the link between economic activity and impacts on the climate, and give policy certainty for investment.
