I'll add to the chorus of love for Claude, the albino alligator at the California Academy of Sciences, who just died at age 30. He'll be missed.
(Terrible photo of me, sorry, but Claude looks handsome as always.)

For #WorldAIDSDay I choose to remember that on Sept 5, 1991, some AIDS activists erected a giant condom over the house of the rabidly homophobic Senator Jesse Helms. Good trouble, in case anybody needs the inspiration these days.

A friend once came upon Tom Stoppard giving a book signing that was so last-minute, it was completely unattended. My friend gushed praise. Stoppard replied, "I'm bored. Let's go shopping," and led my friend around the store, giving him book recommendations. What a treat that must've been. #RIP

A woman approached me in a department store this afternoon.
She: "Can you tell me where is cashmere for men?
Me: "I'm sorry, I don't know".
She: "YOU DON'T KNOW!?"
Me: "No, I don't work here."
She: "YOU DON'T WORK HERE!?"
Me: "No."
And she walked away.

The correct response to "Quiet, piggy".
kermit the frog and miss piggy are sitting at a table with a cup that says kermit
Alt: Miss Piggy hitting Kermit the Frog hard enough to knock him into the next room.

Just pausing to note that Rock Hudson was born a century ago today.

A man was just arrested outside my apartment, and I looked to make sure it wasn't some ICE action. It was city police. In the chase and take-down, the man lost both his shoes, after which a cop kindly knelt down and put the shoes back on the man he'd just arrested. Definitely not ICE.

Attending my first Pride Parade in 1989, I was so surprised to see my Congresswoman in the parade, taking what I assumed to be the personal and professional risk of participating, that I wrote her a letter to thank her. I received this letter in reply.

How nice for a change to glance at the news and not cringe.

Call me old-fashioned, but I still find it satisfying to show up to my polling place on Election Day to cast my ballot.

My favorite Prunella Scales trivia is that when she played QEII in "Single Spies" in 1988, it broke an unspoken protocol by being the first time a reigning monarch had been portrayed on the London stage. The strength it must have taken to do that was evident in all her work. I was a fan.

With the Blue Angels sidelined by the government shutdown, the Canadian Snowbirds stepped up to take their place during today's Fleet Week Air Show. I'm not sure how much we deserve it these days, but thanks for the love, Canada!

To me, Diane Keaton wasn't always the obvious choice going into a movie, but she always felt like the right choice by the end. She brought talent and beauty, of course, but she infused her performances with a humanity that I can't believe was just acting.

Five years ago today, Trump announced that he'd contracted Covid. Among other things, I hoped it might alter his approach to Covid safety, or help him sympathize with essential workers, or soften his opposition to universal healthcare. None of the hoped-for outcomes of that situation came to pass.

In my early struggling-actor days, I twice found myself performing for an audience of one. And yet both times, I got more applause than Hegseth did today from an audience of 800.
