Present in San Francisco. Past in theater. Future unknown.
A while back, I rather innocently checked out a compilation set of Eddie Cantor movies from the library, and found myself sitting there slack-jawed at so much of what I was watching.

One friend is reading a sample work from every writer who won the Nobel. Another read a biography of every US President (through Reagan, I think). One friend is riding every bus line in New York City, and I met somebody doing the same here in SF. So many possibilities!

I like the river idea! I explored my city (San Francisco) by visiting all 28 branches of the public library. And then I explored California by visiting all 58 counties. I loved doing those, but I need something like a reading project that I can do at home. LOL

This particular friend watched all the movies, in order, that won the Oscar for Best Picture, then listened, in order, to all the albums that won the Grammy, then read, in order, all the plays that won the Pulitzer for Drama. Now he's looking for a new project.

Thanks. Do you keep track of your reading someplace, like a blog? Just this afternoon I ran into the friend who taught me that word, and told him about your project. He was impressed.

Hi. As a fellow completionist, I love this project, and am glad I stumbled upon it the other day. I've been thinking of trying something similar, and have been inspired by what you're doing.

I couldn't help but notice that, too. LOL Definitely unusual, if not unique. I'm sure it added to the titillation of the moment to see the women sitting there chatting while he was naked next to them, even if the characters were his immediate family.

Fun stuff. I've seen the original Kaufman/Ferber play, but not the movie. It's often said that "It Happened One Night" caused sales of undershirts to fall when Gable revealed himself without one. True or not, this movie shows Gable's wasn't the first such reveal. Different sort of scene, of course.

LOL, I was following the lyrics okay until they kicked into double-time, like some Gilbert & Sullivan patter song, and they lost me.

Honestly, I'm not sure if I remember it from then either, or if it's a memory planted later, but I enjoyed reading an account of it recently in the memoir of one of the organizers, "Never Silent", by Peter Staley.

Good question, I don't know. I don't even know which books. But probably a little more than his budget at the time. LOL

Every time Stoppard would say he liked a book, my friend would put it in his shopping basket. Once, when he said he already had the book, but automatically put it in his basket anyway, Stoppard rolled his eyes and said "I guess it couldn't hurt to have two." LOL

"He was two-faced, but one was enough." LOL

Wow, what a handsome creature. I guess if you have to have a peeping tom, that's not a bad one. 🙂

That scene is great. It's amazing how effective the lack of music is.

The director Richard Fleischer's memoir "Just Tell Me When to Cry" is fun because, although he isn't a household name, he worked with a lot of the greats on a variety of memorable films, and had a lot of stories to tell.

Giving new meaning to "acting is reacting". LOL Love them.

Loved that book.
