Hi Bluesky 👋
A little intro on myself.

I'm Matteo, a game developer
Currently employed at a mobile game company, but fighting against scope-creep and bugs as an indiedev in the spare time

I'm developing Raising Legion, a one-click rogue-like autobattler (you can find it on Steam)

See you around 😉
After 5 hours of train ❤️, here I am in Cologne, ready to tackle Gamescom 2025 💪
And look what a beautiful church I can look at from my hotel's room window 👀

See you soon everyone 😉

A first real look at my top-down shooter mech game! I've been working hard to get it looking better so it's great to finally show it off.

Found the time to improve my game a bit the last week, and so I started with the choosing of units.
Before it was pretty boring, with the cards simply disappearing, now they swing out of the way 💨, which I think is much more dynamic and engaging 😊

When I started developing my game more than a year ago, I jokingly set the release date to 31-12-2024, and it is... today.
Time sure flies 😅
I honestly believed I would have been done in 6 months, but there is still much to do 😩

Marketing update:
I want to try using UTM in my game's store links, and therefore I am updating all of them, like this:
store.steampowered.com/app/2933310/...
They allow attributing the direct visits to your page.

Hey, being home for the Christmas holidays, I found the time to continue working on my game "Raising Legion".

And now the player can manually destroy their unwanted units 💥
The currency spent can be gained from effects of units or finishing an encounter.

Marketing update:
A week and some has passed since I added more tags to my game, so let's check the results.
The avg amount of visits didn't change, while the % of impressions coming from the Tag Page increased, at the cost of the Click-thru Rate.

Just before things started to nosedive on twitter, I posted a thread that walked through the massive body of work I did over the last three years (on an inspiring team) on the cancelled Project Dragon aka Everhaven.
For posterity I reckon I'll repost that thread, piece by piece, over here ✨

After a big refactor of your game, it is great to see all the automatic tests passing 🤩
Unfortunately, not all the game is covered by them, and therefore manual testing is mandatory 😅

P.S. My tests are coded using the plugin GdUnit4 by Mike Schulze, a wonderful tool 👍

It's a debut release of my studio, and I hope it will be as fun to play as it was fun making it 💛

What is the first advice you give them to make this period a success?

This is a beginner's guide, it’s oversimplified to be used as a quick reference. What’s Pixel Art? There are many definitions, but my favorite is: “It’s low-resolution art where the placement of ever...

So here's a little look behind the scenes at how I am attempting to balance the AI & levels.

The first image shows what the level looks like in-game while the second image shows a program called the Combat Simulator.

It allows for near instant playthroughs of a scenario!

Marketing update:
A week has passed since I added a basic trailer to my game Steam page, so (I think) we can draw conclusions on its impact.
Despite a promising start, the gain has been low. We moved from an avg of 22 visits x day to 26 (+20%).

Marketing update:
Yesterday I added a simple gameplay trailer to my upcoming game on Steam.
It's too soon to reach conclusions, but the big jump in visits certainly looks promising 🤞

Okay, I stop now with the experiments 😅
What I quickly discovered about the result of different attachments:
- .GIF -> Static image of 1st frame
- Low-res .MP4 -> Low-res video
- High-res .MP4 -> Low-res video

So... it seems there is not much of a choice 🤷‍♂️

While working on the trailer of my game, I found the length of a turn to be excessive.
Further investigations identified the problem to be partially caused by the unregulated duration of the units' animations. With some taking 4 frames, while others 9.

For those who follow me, sorry if you see the same post pop up multiple times, but I discovered you can not upload GIF files and this leads to some experimentation 😅
