Once my dog inhaled a foxtail and it got stuck up in his nose. We took him in to the vet to get it removed. Afterwards the vet told me, “he didn’t learn a thing from this. Keep him away from foxtails”. Seems like a relevant story for Jan. 6.

In Boston University's new study of hockey players:

- 96% of former professional players had CTE

- 40% of college players, juniors, and semi-pros had CTE

- 10% of youth and high school players had CTE

To investigate the relationships between duration of ice hockey play and CTE diagnosis and severity, the researchers studied male brain donors who had been amateur and professional ice hockey players. They found 96% (27 of 28) of professional players had CTE pathology (18 of 19 NHL, 9 of 9 non-NHL professionals), 46% of college, juniors and semi-professional players (13 of 28) and 10% (2 of 21) youth and high school players.

Orrin E. Klapp in Opening and Closing (1978), describing resonance as a response to the dizzying effects of modernity over three decades before Hartmut Rosa’s Resonance.
Resonance is seen in the phenomenon of two separate things vibrating together according to the same frequency. In physics it is conceived as a vibration of large amplitude resulting from an application of a forced vibration to a system, when the period of the force equals that of a natural vibration of the system. The notion is sometimes used to distinguish warm social relationships from those that are impersonal, plastic, alienating; being signified by colloquial expressions such as: "good vibes," "warmed up to," "sympathize with," "turned on." "heart-to-heart." "swinging" "engrossed," "en rapport," "we-feeling." I would define social resonance as mutual responsiveness of a warm sort among two or more persons, induced by signals, whether from an outside source or as feedback from the relationship, which actuates recall of valued parts of the memory and identity of each that can be shared - that is, good redundancy. For example, two persons might resonate from listening to a tune or from their own responses to one another. The main idea is that the goal of human communication is not merely transfer of information but responsiveness - resonance - reached through attunement and kept by good redundancy in feedback loops.
