Today we’ll get latest net immigration figures - They’ll show immigration for work is plummeting.

Why is this not part of the discussion on Rachel Reeves balancing her books & stalled growth?

For every 100,000 drop in net immigration, the OBR adds £7bn to the deficit. #r4today

On the eve of this year’s budget, here are 3 simple changes that the @greenparty.org.uk can propose to move taxation away from workers/the working class and towards assets and the wealthy

1. ⬆️ VAT on luxuries, ⬇️ VAT on local services

substack.com/@mjfarley/no...
VAT on luxuries, not on local services
The Greens should be making the case for shifting VAT towards the luxury sector

Taxing exports is a truly stupid idea. Not sure how credible this claim is (or how it has been explained to the people surveyed), but it might be the worst budget idea yet…
With Rachel Reeves reportedly set to apply a new tax on tuition fees paid by overseas students, most Britons support such a move at the previously mooted level of 6%

Support: 57%
Oppose: 18%

There’s a Chinese saying that goes something like, “If you want to be happy for a short time, fall in love. If you want to be happy for a long time, get a dog. If you want to be happy forever, take up gardening”

So where’s all the films & literature about gardening? Seems like a gap in the market..

This is an extraordinary admission

“We have decided to withdrawal medical care for trans people, and now we will go and find the evidence to support that decision”

Morally, politically and scientifically bankrupt
Streeting is admitting that the Pathways “trial” already has a predetermined outcome. Stuffing it with SEGM placeholders is evidence of this.

The only way we are going to end state-mandated torture of trans kids is to get Labour out of government completely.

People at Labour HQ are looking at this graph and thinking “that strategy of triangulating with Reform is really paying dividends: let’s do more of it”

The petty racists will get their wish with this Labour government

And the impact will be entirely negative

And then they’ll find some other ‘others’ to blame

And then this Labour govt will start attacking them

Immigration is saving this country, and we’re about learn that the hard way

So glad to be a member of a party that stands up to racist policies and rhetoric without flinching

@carladenyer.bsky.social effectively challenging this cruel and divisive Labour government yet again!
ICYMI: The Greens have responded to the Govt's plans for changes to the asylum system.

Carla Denyer MP: “This is a new low...plumbing the depths of performative cruelty, in hopes that the public won’t notice they have no answers to the real issues facing communities across this country."

A Government of cowards.

Rather than tackle inequality - they've gone for pensioners, disabled people and now it's people fleeing war and persecution.

They can't get away with this.

I see this opinion expressed a fair bit

The answer is that this Labour Party is simply doing what it was designed to do: continue the neoliberal project and protect the usual British establishment interests

It was obvious to me that that’s what was happening as soon as Blair was elected leader.
How have Labour watched the Tories spend 2-3 years parroting Farage then lose an election badly and conclude a similar strategy is the best course of action?
I. Really. Genuinely. Do Not. Get. It.
Just another of those days when I hate this government
