BREAKING NEWS: We just filed a lawsuit to protect Oregon’s emergency & homeland security funding.

Without this funding, the Oregon Dept. of Emergency Management estimates that 2/3 of Oregon’s counties could lose significant capacity to perform basic emergency management functions.

AG Rayfield files lawsuit to protect Oregon’s emergency & homeland security funding

Today, AG Rayfield and 11 other states filed a lawsuit
against the federal government for, once again, interfering with grants already promised to the states for emergency management, disaster-relief, and homeland security operations. The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court
for the District of Oregon.

Since taking office, the Trump administration has attempted
to reduce FEMA’s role and shift the burden of emergency management to the States by denying or restricting requests for emergency declarations, withholding grant funding, and imposing irrelevant and unconstitutional terms on recipients
of long-standing FEMA grants.

The coalition maintains that the Trump administration included illegal and impossible-to-meet grant terms in the Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) and
the Homeland Security Grant Program (HSGP) that depart
from past practice and serve only as obstacles in obtaining
and using the funding as previously promised.

In Oregon, these federal grants fund the backbone of the emergency management system — from staffing the State Emergency Coordination Center to supporting local and tribal agencies across all 36 counties. Without this funding, the Oregon Department of Emergency Management estimates that about two-thirds of Oregon’s counties could lose significant or even all capacity to perform basic emergency management functions. Homeland security grants also fund critical safety work — from terrorism prevention training and emergency response exercises to maintaining Oregon’s TITAN Fusion Center, which supports intelligence sharing and public safety coordination statewide.

“Oregonians shouldn’t have to worry about whether the money to keep them safe in times of crisis is actually going to show up. These grants put people,
gear and resources where
they’re needed in an emergency– for firefighters, first responders and law enforcement. Families deserve that support and
we’re making sure it reaches
the people who need it.”

Oregon is leading the multistate lawsuit challenging the president’s illegal tariffs. We’ll be presenting our case in front of the U.S. Supreme Court in DC on Wednesday.

BREAKING NEWS: National Guard deployment remains paused until Friday; judge says deployment is likely unlawful.

A federal judge just issued a preliminary injunction until 5pm Friday 11/7, in order to take additional time to weigh the evidence presented at trial this week. The judge indicated in the order, based on her initial review of the evidence, that deployment of National Guard
troops in Portland is likely unlawful. This means that the National Guard still cannot be deployed to Oregon.

“Today’s ruling is a step toward truth and accountability. From the beginning, this case has been about making sure the facts—not the President’s political whims—guide how the law is applied. We’re grateful the court is taking the time to get it right, and we’ll keep doing everything we can to protect Oregon’s ability to govern itself and keep our communities safe.”

For now, the National Guard still cannot be deployed to Oregon.

We anticipate a final ruling from the judge by Friday.
We’ll continue to share updates as we have them.

Turns out the sweetheart deal that Trump's former Labor Secretary Alex Acosta gave Epstein back in 2008 was even worse than we thought. Epstein's emails show Acosta tanked an investigation that had Epstein dead to rights on money laundering, and other financial crimes.

This week, we’re in trial putting on evidence showing that the federal government’s deployment of National Guard in Oregon is unlawful and unnecessary.

Here's what happened on day 2 and what's next:

Trial, day 2:
More witness testimony: federal agents in Oregon
did not request National Guard deployment and were “surprised” by the decision

On Thursday, our final witness described excessive force used by federal agents at the ICE building that interfered with Portland Police Bureau’s ability to manage protests.

Two agents from the federal government - the two most knowledgeable federal agents about the security situation at the Portland ICE building - did not request deployment of National Guard troops and were not consulted before the decision. During cross examination, one admitted “surprise” at the National Guard deployment.

On Friday, the federal government will bring their final witnesses, and both sides will give closing arguments.

We’ll continue to make our case that National Guard deployment in Oregon is unlawful and unnecessary - and we’ll continue to share updates as we have them.
