Your not so gentle reminder that so called ‘Whamageddon’ is really stupid. We should all play it as much as possible because the proceeds go to charity. It’s also a bop

YES! Now it’s Christmas! 🎄🎄🎄
Yes, everyone, it's time for another Very Theory Xmas. We're here until early January with Terry Eagleton's chocolate orange, shameless theory puns, and of course #LastZizekIGaveYouTheReal. Rejoice!

I’m waiting for my mum to call me ASAP, so that I can be ready for a call with my cousin later on. But my mum is waiting for my auntie to call her back, because she had to cut earlier call short to speak to my cousin! 🤦‍♀️🤣🙄

Modern dating is already like talking to an AI chatbot. They may or may not respond to you. They might flood you with compliments & things you want to hear. They say what they estimate you want to hear: cliche, generic questions. They cannot respond interestingly unless there is the perfect prompt.

Ignore me - just discovered it was made in 2015!!! 🤣🤣🤣 wondered why the clothing looked dated at times!

I usually don’t fall for the New on Netflix but actually not new thing 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ doy, doy, doy!
Started watching Cuffs on Netflix. It’s…bad 🫣. The writing is not good, despite some great actors, the acting is off - maybe due to the pacing & editing, & shaky camera.
Keeping the camera on a face does not a complex character make.

This was retold in a presentation I saw a wee while ago, and I can’t for the life of me remember who or where now!!
A story Stoppard told several times, in several places:

Jesus, I thought I might watch The Wheel as when I’ve seen bits I’ve quite liked some of the people. But this must be the worst lineup for me: David Walliams, Richard Madeley, Rachel Riley, Spencer Matthews 😵😵😵
At least they’re all together smoother weeks can be better

Has this guy actually read the book it’s adapted from? Among many other things, the book is a fascinating example of a historical novel, transcending time and place in many ways
In @nytopinion.nytimes.com

The new film “Hamnet” offers up a vision of William Shakespeare as “Marlon Brando in Elizabethan drag,” writes Drew Lichtenberg. While this character may appeal to some, it “played to me like mumblecore Shakespeare, conceived for the TikTok generation.”
Opinion | ‘Hamnet’ Reimagines Shakespeare for the TikTok Generation
Our love of his plays have led to a centuries-long fascination with the writer. So why does each new fictional iteration get his life so wrong?

Compounded by the marketisation of HE. Degrees will still be awarded. The customer is always right. Students can do (or not do) whatever they want because they’ve paid for it. Universities are rated & funded according to pass rates & “student satisfaction”
An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.

I lose all respect to be honest
I don’t know if anyone else notices or cares, but when I see a presentation in which the speaker uses obviously generated-AI images to illustrate their slides, it makes me immediately less confident in whatever other content they’re presenting.

Super disappointing to see the people - who I would otherwise respect - in the comments saying "but I do use it so it's fine".
Even if you don't think it's a red flag for intellectual laziness... it's stolen data! It's THEFT! You're showing your lack of ethics to me & that matters!

Honestly, it is possible to think 'I work hard to earn money; I deserve that money' and *also* 'it would be good if we created a more equal society: I'll help'. Exhausting to see everything presented as a fight to the death between those two ideas, seemingly forever.

It goes without saying that the neoliberal language of a higher education "market" from which providers will "exit" is bleak. No media organisation challenges it, though. They all just repeat the mantra, as though education could never be a public good.
