My husband who has never baked before has made two pineapple upside down cakes in the past month. He is now attempting his mum's baked cheesecake recipe. I don't know who this man is!

I couldn't sleep last night so I finished When Women Were Dragons by Kelly Barnhill (which was great), and I started Ginger and Me by Elissa Soave and I read about 84 pages. Both had teen narrators but I'd say they're books for adults. I've got so many books on my shelves I'm trying to read.

This month in The Bookseller you will find a special collection of articles and features about ESEA (EAST and SOUTHEAST Asian authors and illustrators) this is not something I thought I’d ever see. Well done to Eva Wong Nava, Eric Huang and Candy Gourlay!

I did my last school visits of the year yesterday and the kids were very excited. Friday afternoons in Dec are a tough gig as everyone is either shattered or wired! But it went well. Just one more talk next week and then I’m done until 2026!

I’m going to speak at my old uni next week. I’m excited to spend time there as not only was it my uni but it was also my childhood playground. I use to live five mins around the corner and my dad would take me to the playing field to roll down hills or run about with the dog.

For those wanting a seasonal read that's funny and brilliant then I'd recommend Some like it cold by the ever fabulous @ellemcnicoll.bsky.social The hallmark-ish style YA with an autistic main character at the heart, it's just the thing for curling up with a mug of hot chocolate! #KidsBooksFriday

This morning, I rewrote my opening chapter in third person ( before it was in first person). I sent it to my editor and we both agreed...this is not as good! But sometimes when working on a novel (or a creative project), you have to try somethings to see if they do work. Back to first person we go!

Christmas shopping on your mind? Books are wonderful gifts that you can read again, or donate to charity shops. We want to see our children reading more, we can see they're all screened out. Give the gift of books this Christmas!

Book hive mind. I've got a mentee and we're going to talk about getting an agent and working with an agent. However, I got my agent in 2018; things have changed (Twitter was very good and I didn't have to join a platform to get in touch with agents). What are the best ways to research agents now?

Most of these books are middle-grade U.S titles. I've included some chapter books too.

I was just looking at the prices of my books on Bookshop.Org.UK and found out the Tiger Warrior is going to be published in Germany. No-one mentioned that to me. They've got new fancy covers too! Out in 2026!

My kid has been off school all week with a nasty virus or flu type thing. I've not got much work done but I have watched EPIC the MUSICAL with them and also Only Murders in the Building Season 5!

I'm taking notes as I would like to write a cosy crime!

Not technically screenwriting, but it's a brilliant article - which I think has relevance for us (and it's about gaming, which I'd absolutely love to write for).
just incredibly thrilled to announce that after months and months of uncertainty over the future of the game, and several I have bought Zombies, Run!, the game I co-created and have been making for the past 12 years:
